The Unsolved Murder of Katherine "Katie" Janness

  • Summary

  • At 12:09am on July 28, 2021, cameras captured Katie Janness and her pit bull Bowie crossing the pride crosswalk on 10th into Piedmont Park.

When her girlfriend Emma got home from work, there was no sign of Katie. She texted her but got no response so she pinged her iPhone. It was inside Piedmont Park, which wasn't a concern because Katie frequently walked Bowie there. What was concerning: her phone wasn't moving.

At 1:11am, a panicked Emma called 911 from outside the park after discovering Katie and Bowie dead. They'd been brutally murdered. Both had been stabbed to death, but Katie's murder had been extremely horrific. She was stabbed 50 times and the letters F-A-T were carved into her abdomen.

Today, we are joined by special guests Beth and Bailey from True Crime BnB as we unpack this unsolved murder.

Police ask the public to continue to report leads to Crime Stoppers at 404-577-TIPS or call the APD Homicide Unit at 404-546-4235.
