The report notes that countries with significant abuse of public power for private gain are also countries with high levels of persecution for Christians. Countries like Afghanistan, China, India, Iran, Nigeria, and North Korea. The law would levy a year-long prison sentence for truancy, ban all corporal punishment, and require parents to apply to the National Department of Education for permission to homeschool their children or face charges. Christian View Network has been warning for years that the bill is a radical threat to parental rights. As a result, over 150 Protestant Christians, including 70 children and infants, were forcibly displaced. During their displacement, the group endured poor conditions, living in a municipal building and later a sports complex. They relied on local churches for food and river water for hygiene, leading to widespread illness and infections. A United Nations commission recently stated that the war is intensifying as war crimes and fears of a larger regional conflict mount. Although the Christian population in Syria has dwindled, those who remain are insistent on seeing God’s kingdom advance in their homeland. At the start of the conflict, Syria was solidly 8% Christian. Today, only 2% remain. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Jonathan Clark Russian soldiers destroyed 630 Ukrainian churches A report from Mission Eurasia and the Institute for Religious Freedom of Ukraine documents the destruction of churches in Ukraine since Russia invaded the country in 2022. The report found the war has destroyed at least 630 places of worship as of the end of last year. Over 200 of those were Evangelical properties. Russian attacks were responsible for most of the destruction. Russian soldiers also raided and shut down church services. The government claims that minority groups, like Evangelicals, can fall under the category of extremist activities. International Christian Concern reports there are an estimated 900 Christians in the territory. They have faced the hardship of war with death and devastation all around them. Beyond that, Christians there who have converted from Islam face persecution if their new faith is discovered. Many Christians have sought refuge in church buildings during the conflict only to have them bombed. Solomon Sanga, a local resident, said, “Audu Bala and Jonathan Moses were working on their farms when these Fulani herdsmen waylaid them and shot at them. The two died instantly, while another Christian victim, Japheth Yakubu, was kidnapped on September 10 while he was working on his farm.” In addition, the Fulani Muslim herdsmen murdered three other believers at church services the prior Sunday when they also kidnapped Pastor Yakubu and 30 congregation members. They set up a large tent to shield themselves from the scorching sun and lay mats down on the ground. The Muslim-majority Indonesian government refuses to grant their request for a building permit to construct their desperately needed church building, reports International Christian Concern. Pastor Ari Suksmono said the congregation purchased land 11 years ago and requested the permit the following year.
