    Together, the UCCE Farm Advisors seek to provide relevant, topical research-backed information relating to CA rice production.

    In this episode, Sarah and Jens Beets, a research ecologist with the USDA's Invasive Species and Pollinator Health unit, discussed the challenges of managing algae and cyanobacteria in California rice production, including the impact of excess nutrients and the potential risks associated with rice cultivation. They also explored various strategies to prevent and control algae growth, including the use of nitrogen and phosphorus, water movement, and herbicides, as well as the challenges of managing aquatic weeds.

    In this two-part episode, Sarah Marsh sits down with Dr. Sara Rosenberg, who is currently the UCCE Regenerative Agriculture Farm Advisor for Mariposa, Merced, and Stanislaus Counties to talk about her work in rice crop rotation systems. Sara worked with rice growers in her graduate school experience at UC Davis, where one of her focuses was to understand the barriers to adoption, opportunities, and required resources for successful implementation of crop rotation in rice systems.

    Timothy Blank (Director of Seed Certification Operations, the Foundation Seed Program Executive Director, and the Certified Seed Program Advisor for the California Crop Improvement Association) and Sarah Marsh sit down to talk about the California Crop Improvement Association (CCIA) Rice Seed Quality Assurance Program (Program), which provides a uniform and unbiased quality control system and marketing tool for crop seeds that cannot be verified and merchandised as a class of certified seed as defined by the Association of Official Seed Certifying Agencies (AOSCA).
