  • Ep 197 - Drive Angry Deep Dive + Top Good and Crazy Cage
    Jun 11 2025
On this episode of Ty & That Guy, Ty Franck is joined by special guest co-host Dan Nowack (filling in for Wes) as they dive headfirst into the high-octane, full-tilt madness of Drive Angry—the 2011 supernatural revenge thriller that gives Nicolas Cage the wheel and lets him absolutely floor it. Ty and Dan break down the film’s grindhouse energy, its over-the-top world of satanic cults and spectral accountants, and why Drive Angry is secretly one of the most unhinged gems in Cage’s filmography.

    But that’s just the beginning.

Inspired by the flaming tires and fiery monologues, the guys shift gears into a lively discussion of the Top Good and Crazy Nicolas Cage Movies—those glorious entries where Cage walks the razor's edge between genius and insanity. From the psychedelic horror of Mandy, to the face-swapping lunacy of Face/Off, and the bug-eyed brilliance of Vampire’s Kiss, Ty and Dan break down what makes a Cage performance unforgettable—and why we keep coming back for more.

Fast cars, fiery vengeance, and full-blown Cage energy—this episode has it all.

  • Ep 196 - Dreamscape Deep Dive + Top George Wendt
    Jun 4 2025
In this deep-dive episode, Wes Chatham and Ty Franck throw on their psychic headsets and plunge into the 1984 sci-fi cult classic Dreamscape. A film ahead of its time—or at least weird enough to feel that way—Dreamscape delivers Cold War paranoia, nightmarish visuals, and a telepathic Dennis Quaid trying to save the President from his own dreams.

Ty celebrates the always-watchable David Patrick Kelly, while both hosts reflect on the heavyweight presence of Christopher Plummer and Max von Sydow, who somehow make dream infiltration feel Shakespearean.

The guys also take a heartfelt detour to remember the late George Wendt—his small role in the film sparking a bigger conversation about his underrated legacy beyond Cheers.

It’s government secrets, dream battles, and 80s weirdness at its finest.

  • Ep 195 - Murphy's Romance Deep Dive + Top Corey Haim
    May 28 2025
Wes and Ty take a detour into rom-com territory with a deep dive into the 1985 classic Murphy’s Romance, starring Sally Field and James Garner. Wes is all in on the movie’s cozy small-town vibe and heartfelt performances, calling it a standout in the genre. Ty, not usually a fan of romance, actually ends up liking it more than he expected—mostly thanks to James Garner’s charm.

Things get even more fun when the guys go down a nostalgic rabbit hole and rank their Top 5 Corey Haim films. From Lucas to The Lost Boys, they revisit the hits that made Haim an '80s icon.

As a huge fan of all things The Expanse, both the series and the books (9th and last book is FINISHED, thank you Ty & Daniel), this gem of a podcast is something I stumbled upon first on YouTube and found irresistible even at an unhurried hour+ playtime per episode.

In fact, that’s the best part about it, Ty & Wes clearly don’t give a hoot about viewership, they do this because they enjoy the banter, while discussing funny or illuminating BTS tidbits, they give us glimpses of the creative processes that go into the filmmaking and the writing. In each episode they hilariously announce their top five movies in whatever genres that come up in each episode. Wes is of course always right. (This is how I ended up watching Logan’s Run… interesting but didn’t love it, sorry)

They are self deprecating yet cocksure masters of their craft, Wes is thoughtful, articulate and NOTHING like Amos (in a good way), Ty’s love for his wife will make you cry, and the guests are amazing (Thomas Jane! Ron Perlman!). I always end up learning a ton, and always look forward to the next episode. Highly recommended.

For all The Expanse fans out there, don’t miss!
