  • Mahabharat and Valmiki Ramayan are the two fundamental foundation epics of Hinduism. Ramayan describes the life of Ram, while Mahabharat is not focused on the life of any one person. Dwaipaayan Krishn, who is also called Maharshi Ved Vyas, and Vaasudev Krishn (also called Muralidhar, Giridhar, Gopal, Govind, Madhav etc.) are the soul of Mahabharat and hold all the strings of the story. On surface, it appears that Mahabharat is the story of the family feud within Kuru royal family between sons of Pandu (Pandav) and sons of Dhrutraashtr (Kaurav). But Mahabharat is certainly much bigger than a family feud. This epic is a vast storehouse of knowledge that teaches one about every aspect of life. The struggle in the epic is the clash between two different life-values. Dwaipaayan Krishn and Vaasudev Krishn put in relentless and continuous efforts to establish and strengthen the same fundamental values and ideals for which Ram fought the war against Raavan. Mahabharat is the story of their efforts. By learning and understanding this story and by adopting the learnings into our behaviour we can make our life happy and rich. This series “Mahabharat Ka Mahaparv” is most humbly submitted with the best of regards and wishes to those who value knowledge.


    Valmikiy Ramayan is the original epic which narrates the story of Ram. It is a detailed work which describes Ram as a human being who faced all the difficulties of life. Ram of Valmikiy Ramayan faces dilemmas, discusses with his family and friends, accepts guidance from learned men and suffers hardships. He always takes the right decisions and follows the path of dharm. The series Valmiki Ramayan Ke Ram of conversations between Yogita Pant (Questioner) and Anil Chawla is intended to help the viewers understand the personality of Ram. After understanding one can adopt Ram's ideals in one's own life and enrich one's life.

On reaching the capital of King Drupad, Paandavs stayed at the house of a potter and earned their living by begging. The whole city was having a major festival with kings from across the country assembled there. On the appointed day, all the kings, Brahmins and many others assembled to see the spectacle. Dhrushtdyumn, Draupadee’s brother showed the bow and arrow which were to be used by the candidates to shoot down a rotating target through a narrow hole. Paandvas were sitting there along with Brahmins. Initially, various kings tried to pick up the bow and shoot, but failed miserably. Karn could pick up the bow and was getting ready to shoot when Draupadee intervened to reject him. Other powerful kings also tried and failed horribly. At the end, Arjun who was dressed as a forest-dweller Brahmin, got up. Arjun could hit the target without any difficulty. Seeing that a poor Brahmin had achieved what they could not, the Kings got infuriated. (Mahabharat/Aadiparv/Swayamvar Parv/Chapters 183, 184, 185, 186 and 187). Arjun defeats the Gandharv very quickly using the special weapon that he had received from his Guru Dron. Arjun presents the defeated Chitrarath to elder brother Yuddhishthir who, on an appeal from the Gandharv’s wife, decides to spare Chitrarath’s life. Chitrarath requests for Arjun’s friendship and the two become friends. The two exchange gifts. Chitrarath advises the Paandavs to have a learned Brahmin with them and also recommends the name of Dhaumy Muni as a suitable person. Paandavs visit the ashram of Dhaumy Muni and request him to become their purohit. Dhaumy Muni accepts their invitation. (Mahabharat/Aadiparv/Chaitrrath Parv/Chapters 169, 182 and 183). The story was narrated to the Pandavs by a Brahmin who visited their host in Ekchakra. After losing half his kingdom to Guru Dron, Drupad was extremely disturbed. He felt that none of his sons and relatives were capable and talented. Drupad wanted a son who could defeat Guru Dron. He also wanted a daughter who would be suitable to become queen of Arjun. Drupad convinced Rushi Yaaj to do a yagya for getting such a son and a daughter. Krishnaa and her brother emerged out of fire. The visiting Brahmin also told the Paandavs that a swayamvar of Draupadee had been planned by King Drupad. Maharshi Ved Vyas also visited the Paandavs and instructed them to proceed to Panchaal-nagree where the swayamvar was going to take place. He also narrated the story of earlier life of Draupadee and how she had been blessed to have five husbands. (Mahabharat/Aadiparv/Chaitrrath Parv/Chapters 164, 165, 166, 167 and 168).
