  • Summary

  • Finally, after years of talking about bringing a podcast to Boyle, we’re live! This podcast is our way of documenting stories about Boyle and its people. So what motivated us to take this big leap into the unknown (it’s our first time recording audio and doing interviews!)? We were lucky enough to spend 7+ years travelling and, like the majority of people that live abroad, we came back to Boyle with a greater appreciation for our hometown, its people and its history. We love the idea of creating a space on the internet where people from all over the world can tune in to listen to stories about Boyle. Each show will feature a different guest and we hope to cover lots of topics ranging from the old fair days to current events that are happening in the town.

    Ep 47---

Welcome to our latest episode where we dive deep into the creative journey of songwriter, musician, singer and documentary maker, Pete Higgins.

In this episode, we delve into Pete's musical journey, from his early days of discovering music to writing and performing with bands like Bottle and the Canon Dogs. Pete takes us on a trip down Boyle's musical lane as we talk about the youth masses, the No Name Club and some of the great musical pubs we had in town. We'll also discuss his transition into documentary making, and what led him to create a captivating documentary about Boyle and its mysterious connection to UFOs, featuring the legendary Betty Meyler.

We talk about Pete's songwriting and the release of his solo albums. At the time of recording, he was working on album number 3 and, as timing would have it, he just released three new songs from the album so it's brand new material - Congratulations Pete! The timing couldn't have been better.

    Ep 46---

In a recent episode of Voices of Boyle, I had the pleasure of chatting with Mary Lavin, a tour guide and receptionist at King House. We explored the fascinating history and charm of this remarkable landmark.

Mary talked about the history of King House, from its beginnings in the 1730s as the King family’s grand home, to its time as a military barracks, and now as a cultural heritage center. She also discussed the huge restoration efforts, including removing 26 loads of debris, and shared interesting tales of bravery and historic events.

We then touched on the treasures within King House, including the Mary McAlese collection, Maureen O’Sullivan artifacts, and the Boyle Civic Arts Collection.

This episode is a must-listen for anyone interested in the rich history and culture of Boyle.
