    WMAN HS FB Week 6 2024 - Lexington at Mansfield Senior

    The Lexington Minutemen beat Mansfield Senior on Friday, 19-6, at Arlin Field. The win for Lex was their 1st vs Senior High since 2018, and snaps a 7 game losing streak to the TYgers. Lexington's defense only allow 106 total yards and did not allow a point. Senior High's only score came on a fumble return as the clock was expiring in the 4th quarter. The Minutemen had a big game from Seven Allen, who had 4 catches for 83 yards, which included a 33 yard TD catch in the 2nd quarter. Brayden Fogle had several big catches that helped lead to another Lex TD. QB Joe Caudill threw for 2 TD passes and played a nice game on defense too. Cole Eichorn led the Minutemen in tackles with 7, as Lex (3-3) won their 3rd straight game and moved to 2-0 in the OCC.

    The Shelby Whippets moved to 5-0 for the first time since 2020 on Friday, after an impressive win, 35-6, at Galion. Whippets QB Brayden Devito accounted for 4 touchdowns and over 400 total yard of offense in keeping Shelby unbeaten. Devito threw for 3 scores, and all 3 were to different receivers. Brady Bowman, Nic Eyster and Michael Shepherd, all found the end zone on great passes from Brayden Devito, who also ran in a score from 11 yards out in the 3rd quarter. Devito has a total of 18 touchdowns and over 1,800 yards through 5 weeks. Shelby junior Brock Fisher intercepted 2 passes on the night, and none bigger than his INT in the end zone in the 1st quarter. Galion, after a turnover, had the ball in Whippet territory, and Brock Fisher came up with another INT to give the ball back to Shelby. Fisher, also had a really nice catch to set up a Whippet TD in the first half. Shelby's defense, which has only give up a total of 44 points through 5 weeks (8.8 per game, has only allowed 2 TDs in the last 12 quarters). The Whippets are now 2-0 in the Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference.

    Mansfield Senior dropped to 0-3 for the 1st time since 2004, after a 60-0 loss on Friday at home vs Villa Angela St. Joseph (3-0). The Vikings, led the RB Bo Jackson, who is committed to play for Ohio State, ran for 487 yards and piled up 537 total yards of offense. Jackson ran for 197 yards on just 9 carries (21.88 per carry) and 3 TDs. TJ Moore found the end zone twice and rushed for 134 yards. Dom Bonner ran in two 4th quarter scores to give the Vikings 7 rushing TDs for the game. VASJ's offensive line was incredible, as the opened running lanes, which led to an average of over 11 yards per play. Mansfield Senior was held to -16 yards of total offense and has not scored an offensive TD in the last two weeks. The Vikings had 25 first downs to only 2 for the TYgers. The last time Mansfield Senior gave up 60+ points was 1959 in a loss to Massillon.

    The Shelby Whippets improved to 2-0 on the season on Friday, August 30th with a 21-10 win at Lexington. Shelby QB Brayden Devito had a hand in all 3 Whippet TD's, as he threw for 2 and ran for another score. Kaden Price and Nic Eyster each hauled in TD's, while sophomore Brady Bowman made several incredible over the shoulder catches, including a 50 yard pass on the 1st play of the game to setup a Shelby TD.     The Ontario Warriors scored 31 unanswered points in a season opening win over rival Lexington, 31-14. Ontario got two rushing TD's in the 4th quarter from running back Mason Vantilburg and WR Noah Poole hauled in 2 TD catches from QB Podpegn Miller in the win!     The greatest season in Shelby Whippets boys basketball history came to an end on Saturday in the State Semi-Finals in Dayton. The Whippets fell to Maysville, 68-65, at UD Arena. Alex Bruskotter led Shelby with an incredible performance in his final game in a Whippets uniform, as he scored a game high 34 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. Casey Lantz added 12 points and pulled down 11 boards. Jordan Watson led Maysville with 26 points, Alex Bobb had 22 points and Gator Nicholas chipped in 18 points. Neither team led by more than 5 points in the entire game and there were 15 lead changes, along with 10 ties in the game. Shelby, who reached the state tournament for the 1st time in school history, ends the year 25-3. The Maysville Panthers (26-3) have won 21 straight and will play Kettering Archbishop Alter on Sunday (5:15 pm) for the Division II State Championship.     The Shelby boys basketball team still has not lost in 2024. The Whippets won their 17th straight game on Saturday night, 62-52, over Lexington in the Division II District Championship game. This is Shelby's 4th District crown in school history and their 1st, since the 2020-2021 season. Alex Bruskotter was close to recording a triple-double, as he had 20 points (10 in the 1st quarter), 11 rebounds and 9 assists. Issaiah Ramsey had 13 points and played some incredible defense all night. Brayden Devito added 11 points and Casey Lantz, who had one of 3 Shelby thunderous dunks, chipped in 10 points. The Whippets led by as many as 14 points, but one of the biggest runs was a 5-0 spurt by Shelby, late in the 2nd quarter, when Lex went on an 11-0 run to cut the lead to 1. The Whippets responded with a 5-0 run into halftime to grab the momentum. Lexington (22-3) was led by Brayden Fogle with 13 points and Gavin Husty with 11 points. Shelby (23-2) will now play Lima Shawnee (19-6) on Thursday, March 14th (8pm) in the Division II Regional Semi-Final, at the Stroh Center, on the campus of Bowling Green State University. The game will be broadcast live on WMAN with Aaron Hines and Erik Will.
