  • 18 - A Boy, an Alien…and Also a Cat
    Nov 7 2024

Today we look to the stars, but not before we clean the lasagna out of the litter box. That’s right, we are covering two nostalgic throwbacks! One is widely considered a classic, and the other flies a little below the radar. See if you can guess which is which. But lucky for us, both feature some candy, candy, candy, candy.

We’ll begin with a short, animated special that follows Garfield the cat on his very first trick-or-treating adventure. And he’s invited Odie, you and us along for the ride. After that animated appetizer, we revisit the Steven Spielberg + John Williams juggernaut, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial. He may be ugly, but he’s endearing. Also kids in the 80’s were crazy. The era did bring us some iconic, cinema soundtracks, so we also have an audio quiz to get us in the mood.

We also mentioned a few links on the episode that we’ll include below. And if you scroll down a little further you can vote on the Spotify poll to let us know what you think. Do either of these hold up?! If you have suggestions for future episodes, we’d love to hear them at ideas@WDYT.show.

  • 17 - Chucky Is Your Friend 'Til the End
    Oct 31 2024

Hidey-ho! It’s Halloween, and things are getting a little spooky around here. Jeff’s experience with this holiday—and with creepy movies—is pretty limited, so Josue thought this would be a good time to take a plunge into nostalgic horror with an iconic film from the 80’s. Child’s Play. Starring the one and only Chucky, ‘your friend to the end.’

We kick things off with a little quiz where Jeff gets to flex his new found knowledge about our friend Charles. Let’s see how much there is to know about this doll that kicked off a long-running, freaky franchise that just keeps coming back like some sort of voodoo.

Scroll down to the poll to let us know what you think of Child’s Play! While you’re there, drop a comment to let us know your best ever Halloween costume. If you have suggestions for future episodes, we’d love to hear them at ideas@WDYT.show.

  • 16 - When We Say Addams You Say Family
    Oct 24 2024

We are nearing the end of October, and that means the podcast is getting slightly creepier…but also ookier and kookier. And a bit sensual? We are revising another sequel that Jeff thinks will stand the test of time, but there is only one way to find out. Let’s talk about 1993’s Addams Family Values where humor takes a dark turn and romance blossoms in unexpected places. And, frankly, in weird ways. But first, a little quiz on TV show tunes. Play along and see if you can guess the answer before Josue does (or doesn’t).

Remember to scroll down to the poll to let us know what you think of Addams Family Values! While you’re there, drop a comment to let us know who is your favorite member of the Addams Family. If you have suggestions for future episodes, we’d love to hear them at ideas@WDYT.show.

  • 15 - Alice Through the Looking Glass (with Jimmy Abyad)
    Oct 17 2024

This week we have a special guest in the studio, and it’s not the white rabbit that you expected to find. Jeff’s brother Jimmy (a.k.a., ‘Second Desk’) visits the pod as our resident Wonderland expert, because—that’s right—we are back for PART 2 of Alice’s crazy, wild ride — this time in reverse! Don’t worry if you missed part one…so did we. Initially. But in part two the story gets curiouser and curiouser, and we realize that there is way more to relate to in the story of Alice than any of us may have realized. We also have a new quiz where Jimmy and Josue face off, or team up, to answer some trivia about Alice.

If either of these episodes have inspired you to take a trip down this 2-part rabbit hole from 1985, you can currently watch it on YouTube using the links below. There you can also find links to Jimmy’s socials as well as our YouTube show channel and instagram feed for fun video extras. Let us know if you have suggestions for future episodes at ideas@WDYT.show. And scroll down on Spotify to vote in the episode poll — Do YOU think this movie holds up?!

  • 14 - Disney’s Magical Take on a Medieval Tale
    Oct 10 2024

This week Jeff and Josue are digging into the archives to explore a Disney ‘classic.’ The Sword in the Stone was a childhood favorite that puts a fun, magical spin on a legendary tale. Looking back it may have been more formative than we even realized. We’ll talk about directors and voice actors who proved their worth, talented animators and budget-related shortcuts that you may (or may not) have noticed. Come along for the ride and see if it measures up to what we remembered. And let us know what YOU think in the comments.
