What one founder's past says about AI's future

  • Summary

  • To understand AI, you need to hear Mustafa Suleyman's story. From youth hotline founder to DeepMind creator and Microsoft AI chief, his journey explains AI's evolution and his plans for its future.

TED Radio Hour+ subscribers now get access to bonus episodes, with more ideas from TED speakers and a behind the scenes look with our producers. A Plus subscription also lets you listen to regular episodes (like this one!) without sponsors. Sign-up at: plus.npr.org/ted.

Correction: This story incorrectly states that DeepMind was one of the first AI companies. DeepMind was not one of the first AI companies, it was one of the first AGI—artificial general intelligence—companies.

Undertone TRYING to convince us "AI is totally safe, I pinky promise".

The undertone of this interview is: "Yes I helped CREATE AI From Scratch. And Yes, I left my creation, *DEEP MIND AI* With Google, Because I knew Google was using it to make weapons and war on behalf of the government..... and Yes Chat GPT totally screwed the porch giving AI away for free initially, BUT MY NEWEST COLAB. WITH MICROSOFT AND BILL GATES IS TOTALLY SAFE! and while I say I welcome more regulation and safety and friction to slow down innovation.... BECAUSE.....

AI is totally safe and definitely not going to kill us... I mean could it?... Easily. yes! But I don't want to have to be tested for safety Pre Public Relese until , like, 2030!! ". . . . WTF!! Good interview Though.
