This Isn’t 1867
As they point out themselves, they do not consider all the strains of Communism that those referring to present-day Communism could be alluding to. There is no discussion of neo-Marxism, Gramscian Marxism, or Identity Marxism, for instance. In these, the focus has turned away from and indeed basically abandoned the working class. However, all these are highly relevant to the present.
Even if they only wanted to stick to 1867 Marxism, they fail to elaborate on how Lenin’s notion of a Vanguard party was a significant departure from Marx. Key themes like the dialectic and alienation are only hinted at.
Despite all this, the discussion that neither side really has a coherent ideology today, but what we have instead is tribalism, seems on target.
Better resources to recommend would have been “Socialism: Utopian and Scientific” by Engels, “Marxism: Philosophy and Economics” by Sowell and “Race Marxism” by James Lindsay for coverage of modern strains. Αll αre quite short.
