  • “I’m Someone Who Finds A Lot of Meaning in Work” with Tony Stubblebine
    Sep 24 2024

Tony Stubblebine is a CEO. Not once, not twice, but three times he was trusted by people with money not to lose it too quickly. But Tony didn’t grown up with goal of becoming another stressed out white guy running a company. He excelled in computer science and was driven to make enough money to live securely, to own a home.

Unfortunately, work is gonna work and Tony found himself consistently dissatisfied because he wasn’t doing work that mattered. He wasn’t doing work that impacted people. So he swiped the trajectory of his career from the hands of others and firmly gripped it in his own. Listen to the story of a late blooming entrepreneur who found a way to lead with purpose.

Oh, and he gives his perspective on why diversity, equity, and inclusion programs fail.

  • “The People in Your Circle May Surprise You” with Shareen Harding & Jefferson Brooks
    Sep 10 2024

Jefferson Brooks grew his career from pizza delivery to a six-figure management role at a big box retail store. His love of dogs led him to become adept at training. People began to rely on Jefferson to better their dogs and, ultimately, their families. He found he was so fulfilled at this work that he left his career to launch Brooks Family K9, a family-owned business that helps dogs and their owners live better together through training in aggression, obedience, loose leash, and early training for puppies.

Shareen Harding knew when she was 11 years old that she wanted to be a neonatal ICU nurse. And for 14 years, she’s done just that. A very focused woman who does nothing halfway, her love of dogs propelled her to become the founder and CEO of Kenai’s House, a nonprofit organization providing a safe and healthy environment for abandoned and neglected animals to thrive and have a second chance at life until responsible and loving homes can be found.

Together, Jefferson and Shareen have combined their expertise to offer a comprehensive range of services that allow them to be “here for the lifetime of the pet.” They offer advice on when you know you’re ready for a dog, how to find the right pet for your family, and tips on preparing to welcome a dog into your home. As entrepreneurs they also share things they wish they’d known when they launched their organizations.

Oh, and we dig into the dirty side of the industry of dog shelters.

  • “I Didn’t Realize I Couldn’t Do Things Until I’d Already Done Them” with Lauren Howard
    Aug 27 2024

Lauren Howard has found a way to be motivated without a ton of pressure from her family. While her immigrant grandparents had some traditional views about women’s roles, her progressive dad let her know that SHE would be the man who would provide for her. Had it not been for the very real adverse effects she experiences in the presence of other people’s injuries, she very well would have been Dr. Lauren.

Instead, she earned her college degree in journalism and then didn’t do journalism. Like, not even a little bit. Her career path to corporate America followed by an unpaid, untitled role in revitalizing her father’s business revealed she is undeniably skilled in two areas: finding opportunities and telling people what to do. Today she is the CEO of three businesses where she tackles the bloated infrastructure of healthcare, especially in the areas of mental health and trauma in the workplace. Leading with the goal of “artfully oversharing because isolation lies," Lauren shares her passions with transparency, humor, and accessibility.

  • “Buckle In, This is a Funny Story” with Elky Ramirez
    Apr 9 2024

Elky “No, It’s Not Short for Anything” Ramirez grew up alternating between the United States and Costa Rica, which left her feeling both grateful and angry. Grateful that she acquired native English language skills, which opened up a wide range of career opportunities for her. Angry about the salary discrepancies between the two countries.

At 10 years old, this smart, curious kid had to balance translating complex immigration documents for her parents with illegally downloading software in order to teach herself digital art. She studied graphic design in college while working a design job at Amazon. Feeling like she received a better education from her colleagues and own self-taught gumption, she stayed at Amazon but not school. The work-gym-sleep-repeat cycle lead her to take a leave of absence from her job to take a course on teaching english as a foreign language at the beach. Swapping work-gym-sleep for beach-tan-class made her return to the office a challenging one. It also marked the beginning of her non-linear path to becoming a freelance graphic designer and digital nomad.

Seeking a community as a solo female traveler lead Elky to a WhatsApp group for Black women where she felt seen and understood. However, she understood the need for Black women to be in spaces created just for them, so with support from the administrator of the group, Elky launched her own group for a melanated people living in Colombia. Coordinating accessible, fun, engaging, unique, inclusive events helped her grow the group to over 700 members. It also sparked Elky Ramirez Experiences, her new growing career that is fulling a space in the growing ex-pat community in her new home country of Colombia.

Tune in to listen to her path of resilience, positivity, and hustle.

Oh, and she reveals how Amazon really makes its money (hint: it’s not from selling products!)
