  • Beer, the NBA, and Open and Relational Theology with Tripp Fuller
    Jun 24 2024

Has anyone in the English-speaking world done more to advance the idea of process-influenced open and relational theology than Tripp Fuller? Hmm, probably not. The good Dr. Fuller is an author, podcaster, thinker, and world-class academician. And he joins me today to talk a little NBA, beer, Al Whitehead, and all things open and relational theology.

Find him all over the interwebs, but principally on the Homebrewed Christianity podcast. Also, make sure to plug into the Tripp-led Theology Beer Camp. When you do, you might as well get some money off, so use my promo code: FOSTERFRODO.

Thanks everyone. Don't forget to subscribe and leave some stars. No really, that'd be awesome.

    Peace,
    J

  • Open & Relational Theology and My Muslim Friends: Saida Mirsadri & Jared Morningstar
    Jun 4 2024

With it's emphasis of relation over substance and possibility over predetermined endings, open and relational theology provides a way forward for both Muslims and Christians. I became even more convinced is the reality as I was editing a recent SacraSage Press book entitled Open and Relational Theology and its Social and Political Implications: Muslim and Christian Perspectives.

Two of the contributors to the book, Saidi Mirsadri and Jared Morningstar join me today to talk about all things ORT related, the Islamic faith, what they wish Christians knew about Muslims, and more. It was an honor to interact with these two human beings. Saidi is an writer, thinker, and Research Associate at the University of Bonn and Jared is also a writer, and the Communications Director at the Center for Process Studies and Operations Assistant at the Cobb Institute. For more information, see jaredmorningstar.com

Meanwhile, if you like the show, subscribe and leave some stars and reviews! And if you want to hear more, feel free to support this show and a handful of other podcasts that are doing progressive, liberating, affirming work within a network called the QuoirCast by supporting our Patreon page here.

Hope to see you checking in at jonathanfosteronline.com. That's where you'll find more about what I'm up to, books, cartoons, and even our work in Haiti, which is probably the most important thing my family and I are involved in. But yes, find me there and then sign up for my newsletter!

  • An Open and Relational Theological Conversation with Dr. Marjorie Suchocki
    May 13 2024

It was such an honor to have a conversation with the venerable Dr. Marjorie Hewit Suchocki about compassion, prayer, sex, justice, power, and theology. Marjorie is an author, United Methodist professor emerita of theology at Claremont School of Theology, and one of the most important process theologians of the 20th century, though here we are well into the 21st century, and she's still going strong! Recently, I read her book, In God's Presence and found it helpful regarding prayer in the open and relational tradition.

Our conversation partner today (making her second appearance on the J_F podcast), is my friend, Shaleen Kendrick. I hope you'll check out her website.

Hey, make sure to use the promo code FOSTERFRODO to get some $ off for Theology Beer Camp this October in Denver.

If you're looking for ways to think through mimetic theory in concert with open and relational theology (and who isn't?), you should check out Theology of Consent: Mimetic Theory in an Open and Relational Universe.

Thanks for your time. Consider leaving some stars and a review for this episode. No, really. Think about it.

    Peace,
    Jonathan

  • Open and Relational Christianity with Matt Segall
    May 3 2024

Hey friends, I hope you know about Matt Segall who's a a transdisciplinary researcher, writer, teacher, and philosopher applying process-relational thought across the natural and social sciences, as well as to the study of consciousness. If you don't know of him, you do now! Subscribte to his Footnoes2Plato on Substack and/or YouTube. Or pick up one of his books like the one we reference in our conversation Physics of the World-Soul. I really appreciate Matt's work. He's one of my go to people whenever I need to critically think through something about Alfred North Whitehead, philosophy, A.I., evolution, or process thinking, you know, stuff like that.

If you like the concepts Matt and I talk about and/or you're someone who's experienced some loss in your life, I'd be willing to bet you'd find my most recent book meaningful. It's called indigo: the color of grief. Speaking of interesting concepts, you should join me and lots of others at Theology Beer Camp this fall, but make sure you use my promo code FOSTERFRODO to get some $ off! And also, while you're out on the internet, you might as well sign up to my newsletter here.

    Thanks everyone, peace.

  • Mutual Imminence and Open and Relational Theology with Jay McDaniel and Tori Owens
    Apr 29 2024

Have you read the good stuff at openhorizons.org? If not, check it out and learn about my friend, scholar, author, process theologian, and interdisciplinary thinker, Jay McDaniel. Our conversational partner on this episode is Tori Owens. Tori is a counselor, friend, and amazing artist, and she is soon to have her doctorate in open and relational theology. Both Jay and Tori bring a tremendous sense of compassion, abundance, and love to the conversation, which happens to be really important to me (as I think they are essential things for the whole world).

Speaking of abundance and love, I hope you take time to pick up a copy of indigo: the color of grief. And if you like it, leave a review. indigo is all about grief, lament, joy, beauty, art, and life. So, if any of those things are interesting to you, you should check it out.

  • The Quantum Sayings of Jesus and Keith Giles
    Apr 23 2024

Please welcome Keith Giles back to the show. Keith has a brand new book dropping today, actually, April 23 and it's called The Quantum Sayings of Jesus: Decoding the Lost Gospel of Thomas. I really enjoyed reading the book, learning more about the backstory with The Gospel of Thomas, and my conversation with Keith. I hope you'll pick up a copy of the book and/or find out more about Keith at his patheos site.

Keith and I (and others) are a part of the QuoirCast Patreon page. We'd love for you to be involved. Jump in, support it as you can, which will help us do some advertising. :)

Hope you take opportunity to sign up to my newlsetter at jonathanfosteronline.com. Once there you can go patreon or substack for your newsletter. How coool would that be? Also, while you're there you can learn more about some of my writing (or all of my writing ... why not?). To think through open and relational theology (ORT) and mimetic theory see Theology of Consent. To think ORT and grief, see indigo. For ORT (are you seeing a pattern?) and reconstruction see The Reconstructionist. Etc, etc. :)

  • Open and Relational Theology with Mark Feldmeir and Hyemi Jones
    Apr 22 2024

Lookin' for a great book from an author and pastor? Oh, you should know about Mark Feldmeir and his book Life After God: Finding Faith When You Can't Believe Anymore. Really enjoyed having a conversation with Mark about love, church, relationality, theology and his journey. It was also great to have my friend, Hyemi Jones as our conversational partner on this episode. Both Hyemi and Mark are from the United Methodist flavor of Christianity, so it was cool to get their take on how open and relational thinking can play out within their perspective.

Hey, thanks for supporting this particular show by joining up with the QuoirCast Patreon page. And I hope you've had a chance to get in on my newlsetter by subscribing to my Substack Publication.
