Premchand's literary career started as a freelancer in Urdu. Kurukshetra is a Hindi classic. It gives an extraordinary account of the Kurukshetra war mentioned in the Mahabharata. Sahir Ludhianvi can be called the poet with a “social conscience” as is evident from his poetry in which social concerns are often the dominant themes. Through his poetry he lamented the decline of morality in society, discrimination against women, futility of war, and attacked the rise of the self-appointed custodians of religion and power-hungry politicians. Born into a Muslim family on March 8, 1921, his real name was Abdul Hayee and Sahir Ludhianvi was his pen name. Sahir's childhood was marked by the separation of his parents and the unfair treatment of his mother.

अहमद फ़राज़ आज के सबसे लोकप्रिय शायर हैं। उन्हें जीते-जी ऐसी शोहरत मिली है कि आज हिंदुस्तान और पाकिस्तान में फ़राज़ साहब की ग़ज़लों और नज़्मों को बड़े शौक से पढ़ा और सुना जाता है। 'ये मेरी ग़ज़लें, 'ये मेरी नज़्में' की विशेषता यह है कि इसमें खुद फ़राज़ साहब ने अपनी मनपसंद बेहतरीन ग़ज़लों और नज़्मों का चयन किया है। अहमद फ़राज़ की शोहरत ने जब अपने गिर्द एक ऐसा प्रभामंडल पैदा कर लिया जिसमें उनके एक इंक़लांबी रूमानी शायर की छवि चस्पां है। अपने मुल्क में उन्होंने जेलें भी काटी हैं।
