Publisher's summary

Rebecca Wells desperately wants to overcome her reputation. She's finally trying to put an end to her 24-year rivalry with the perfect Josh Hill, a rivalry that began when she was a kid and the Hills moved in across the street. Great looking, popular, a successful horse rancher, Josh is Dundee's golden boy - and the son her father always wanted. But even when her father insists they call a truce, it's hard for Rebecca to drop her resentment of Josh. She refuses to acknowledge that she feels more for him than she's ever let on. The man she loves to hate is also the man she'd hate to love!

Great Read

A Husband of Her Own (Dundee, Idaho #2) was a great read by Brenda Novak. Rebecca has had a rivalry with Josh for the last twenty-four years. They are finally trying to end the rivalry. He seems to be Dundee’s golden boy and everyone loves him, including her father. Rebecca has a hard time putting the resentment of Josh aside and admitting that she has feelings for him. I really enjoyed reading Rebecca and Josh’s story and can’t wait to read more by Brenda Novak.

I love this book!

What did you love best about A Husband of Her Own?

The story was very well written. The author did a great job with character development of both main characters. I especially liked the process during which Josh tried to fight his feelings toward Becka.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I had two favorite characters: Rebecca (Becka) and Josh. Both were strong characters and I loved the way the author showed the conflict and eventual evolution of their feelings toward one another.

Have you listened to any of Amy McFadden’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This is the first time that I listened to Amy McFadden as narrator.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I liked the part where Becka and Josh met with her parents, and Josh felt protective of Becka. The interchange between Josh and Becka's father was priceless!

Any additional comments?

This is by far one of the best books by Brenda Novak that I listened to! I highlyy recommend this book.

Immature characters

Narration is fine. Story keeps interest, but, oh my, the characters are immature. They compete rather than relate. Heroine spends most of the book mortifyingly desperate to marry a guy she barely knows and who pays her virtually no attention.

Her father is so dismissive it seems like emotional abuse and it’s not really resolved. Honestly when she she needs to stop relating to her family until they treat her with some caring and respect.

Meanwhile the hero and heroine manage to take their competition into significant property damage.

They needed to do more talking and less competing.

My Last Nerve

In book one, Rebecca was an assertive and unique character, who didn't seem to care what people in her small town thought about her lifestyle.

Somehow, in book two, Rebecca (30) became so pathetic and insecure that she got on my last nerve. She allowed her family, neighbors and fiancé walk all over her, never standing up for herself or drawing personal boundaries.

Since I didn't like Rebecca or her childhood enemy Josh (who was dating a bitch he didn't even like), it was hard to care how the book ended. Rebecca's guy friend Booker was the most interesting character, the only one who didn't act like he was still in high school.

Unfortunately, Rebecca lacked a backbone, needing a man to validate her worth. What a disappointment.
