About this listen

Flint is tall, gorgeous and dangerous. He’s a cyborg - the absolute ultimate alpha male. He takes what he wants and holds what is his. Mira is his now. He takes her aboard his ship and has her branded with his mark. He captured her, owns her, and she will serve his every need.

Mira is instantly drawn to Flint, fascinated by his seductive appeal. The sex between them is smoking hot. Until she finds out he is a breeder, contracted to a dozen cyborg women, and she is no more than a possession.

Mira won’t share her cyborg and she belongs to no one - not even to a man who has captured her heart. She doesn’t know if cyborgs feel... anything. Can Flint love her? Mira is determined to find out, no matter how much trouble she makes for the big guy.

Reader Advisory: This book contains a sexy, voyeuristic bondage scene in which Flint generously demonstrates his sizzling skills for the benefit of another cyborg.

Editorial reviews

Laurann Dohner's vision of an intergalactic future, with its fleshed-out history and cultural tensions, sets the stage for dark master/slave fantasies to play out in unexpected ways. Mindy Kennedy's performance captures both the rawness and the sweetness of the emotional roller coaster Mira and Flint are forced to ride as their different worlds collide in equal parts pleasure and pain.

Sure to satisfy fans of Dohner's New Species and Mating Heat series, Burning Up Flint is a quick and sexy listen that's difficult to pause as it teases listeners with the question of whether this budding cyborg-human romance can survive.

I got mad....

Many others did enjoy this story. The reviews said as much and that is why I purchased this. But at the half way point I was mad. Not because it was poorly written or the audio was bad. It was well written and well performed. Well enough that it provoked an emotional response from me. It was the idea of Mira being property, the debasement of a woman, cyborg with limited humanity or no. From the start the idea of her debasement being sexy was not appealing to me. But hey every romance needs a conflict so I rallied behind her arguments to the fact that she was not a thing to be owned. I was even in agreement with her not so well thought out plan that landed her in the predicament that made me shut off the audio and not want to read anymore; it’s not like she had a lot of options to run with. Basically she wanted to be seen understood and loved not owned. Even though it seemed a bit Stockholm-ish that she was in love with her owner at all. It’s a fictional sifi erotic novel so everyone excuses how “quickly” Mira capitulates and falls for Flint then just as quickly decides she just can’t abide by Flint insisting she is mere property and she must escape him. And Flint was toeing the line of not being book boyfriend material and then how he treats her after her botched plan ... well ... I was fuming mad. I was in the mood to fly through the stars with an impossible man, have a bit of adventure and read some steamy scenes. I guess I wasn’t in the mood to have my women’s lib button pushed tonight. I didn’t hate this but it did trigger my anger button so if your feeling emotional you may want to hold off until your not feeling so sensitive and man stabby. I will revisit this another time and hopefully be able to not have such a strong reaction to Mira’s situation or Flints a$&holery!

Rapey and not believeable

Struggled with the enslavement part, then gave up at the unrealistic responses Mira showed back at the cyborg planet. Wanted to like this, I can see why some do, but this is just not for me.

OMG! What have I been missing...

So, I refuse to listen to this at first, because of the bad reviews... Some said you could skip this book and start with book 2, you wouldn't miss much... WRONG!

This book was so dang good. Flint is like my favorite Cyborg now. He was so sophiscated and smexy... Such a dominate romantic! Love it. The smex in the book blew me away.. the tub scene! WHAT!!!

Now that I have listen to this book, after listening to book 2-5... So much of the story makes scene now. Book 2 happens right at the end of this book or rather starts around the same time Flint returns to Garden... then book 3 happens while this book is taking place. And book 4 happens when book 3 is taking place...at the same time. And book 5 begins right where book 4 leaves off.

Yes, all the storys are stand alone...but it makes better sense if you read/listen to them in order...

Great Buy, sale or credit... This on is a keeper... Makes me wanna get me a cyborg!

Narration was great...

Promising beginning

Promising beginning to a new series, but misses in several places. The character of Flint is very inconsistent, as if Dohner was still trying to figure him out when this was published. Mira started out interesting, but quickly devolved. Her huff in taking off in the pod just wasn't developed enough to be consistent with the character development to that point made her come off as juvenile with a personality disorder. "I know you wouldn't hurt me" "You hurt me" Rinse, repeat. This had just enough story that I read the next book with Steel- much better. Kennedy's narration works with the story.

Not as good as New species

What did you like best about Burning Up Flint? What did you like least?

They story idea is quite unique

If you’ve listened to books by Laurann Dohner before, how does this one compare?

I read New Species #uptodate but this one does not come close

How did the narrator detract from the book?

I cant put my finger on it, but her narration was off.

Did Burning Up Flint inspire you to do anything?

Yes, not ti read/ listen the rest of the series.

Any additional comments?

My money is better spent on the New species. I really wish I had enjoyed this one more, but I did not. Makes me leery of trying other series by the author.

Sexy and Short

We’ll written, fun, story, and I really enjoyed the male character. Female was a bit over the top dramatic at times, especially the balcony scene, which made me roll my eyes, but otherwise it was thoroughly enjoyable.
