About this listen

For most, a plane crash means the end of life. For Dusti Dawson, it's just the beginning...Dusti and her sister Batina survived the crash, thanks to a couple of brothers who are equal parts menacing and muscled. She'd be grateful...if they hadn't turned out to be delusional kidnappers, who believe Dusti's grandfather is some monstrous halfbreed creature bent on murder. Turns out Vampires, Lycans, and Gargoyles do exist - and they've been crossbreeding to form two hybrid races. Drantos, the man Dusti can't stop lusting after, is one of the most dangerous of all.

VampLycans Drantos and Kraven were sent to eliminate a threat to their clan. But when that threat turns out to be mostly human women, clueless of their lineage, plans change - especially after Drantos gets a taste of Dusti's blood. Now, he'll die to protect her. Even if that means walking away from everything he knows to keep her at his side.

Is her strong desire for Drantos reason enough to endure danger coming from all sides? Or should Dusti cut and run the first chance she gets?

Author Note: VLG stands for Vampires, Lycans, Gargoyles...and breeds in between. Living in Alaska's harsh, pristine territories, these creatures live and love fiercely. These are their stories.

The More I Listened, The More It Grew On Me!

Overall, I liked Drantos, but honestly it wasn't my favorite by Dohner.

Laurann Dohner is a talented writer who has created a complex world of lycans, vampires and gargoyles. The story's fresh, fascinating, full of humor, but there's a lot to take in with the characters, clan politics, and the history of these supernatural beings (it almost had my head spinning.) I believe die hard fans of shifter romances will appreciate the complexity and mix of these supernatural beings; however, I can tell this will be one of those stories where some will love it, while others will dislike it.

Some spoilers;
True to Dohner's writing style, there's a lot of heat, attraction and sexual tension between the H/h. In the beginning, it felt a bit forced but as the story progresses, the chemistry between Drantos and Dusti develops and becomes genuine. At times, Dusti's character could be annoying, and stubborn but at least she had a backbone. I actually felt bad for Drantos when he discovered she was his mate. Because of his clan's politics and their dislike of supernatural beings who have been diluted with human blood, Drantos had an uphill battle protecting, keeping and convincing his clan and Dusti of her place as his mate. From the moment he realizes Dusti's his mate, I loved how this dominate alpha's world changes as he becomes focused on making her happy and helping her fit in.

The subplot and characters were really good. Dusti and Bat were tricked by their grandfather, Decker, to come to Alaska for a sinister plot. He wants to use one of the sister as leverage to start a conflict between the different clans all in an attempt to gain power over all the clans. When Drantos's clan learns Decker is plotting something bad, Drantos and Kraven are sent to intercept and retrieve the sisters before Decker can put his plans into motion.

This was the first story I've listened to narrated by Savannah Richards and was impressed with how she portrayed the characters. She did a fantastic job!

I'm a huge fan of PNR's and loved both the New Species and Cyborg series! This is the first story in the VLG series I've listened too and thought it was intriguing but not as intense as her other series. I am curious enough to listen too the other audios that have been released; however, I would only buy these stories on a whispersync deal or sale and save my credit.

So glad I found this series!

Wow! This is great. New twist on romance. I love Savannah Richards narration. She's spot on! I don't write reviews that give away the story but I can tell you this is great if you like new species. You got to love these characters and the adventures they go on. Would I recommend this book, well, YES! lol

I wanted to love this book

This book had a ton of potential and the narrative was really good, but the book itself was just ok it seemed to drag on and just had a bunch of filler.

Entertaining Story

Any additional comments?

Not great but it is entertaining. I liked the male characters; however the two lead female characters (sisters) were too aggravating. They were loud mouthed and just too stupid to tolerate.

meh

I made it through the whole thing but I will always have a problem with Laurann's female characters. They are soooooo fake. Always upset,. I love the idea of her stories so I continue to read them. This book was better written then others of hers I have read.

Hard to get into

I am having a hard time switching to this series because her other book, yet simple, are awesome! Hard for me, a romance and fantasy book fan, to have my mind accept these VLG's type of "monster". I am still trying to make it through this first book. Love the Author though but this book is different.

Oh, Drantos, Be Mine!

Very unexpected story, and yet typical Dohner style. Dohner’s world building is strong and I absolutely adore this series as much as I liked New Species series. I was quickly immersed in the story and didn’t want to put the book down. So good... now on to book two.
