About this listen

Droka

A warrior owns what he is able to take. And I take her. She's trembling in a closet, hiding from the raiding party invading her human settlement. Hiding from me. I collar her. I own her. She's mine by law.

As the Captain of the Imperial Guard, I've sworn a solemn oath to have no mate, sire no offspring. Oath-breakers are traitors, executed without a second thought. Let them try. I'll beat them all for a chance to claim my mate.

Aren

I just want to go home. Except, I don't have one. These alien bastards burned it to the ground. And the biggest bastard of them all put a collar around my neck. He parades me around on the end of a leash like I'm his newest pet.

My clothes are torn, and my body is exposed, and there's about 100 alien warriors looking at me like they can't wait to have a turn. He keeps me safe from the horde. I'm his lawful captive, his property - and he doesn't want to share. But will he fight this hard to protect me when he finds out who I really am?

Contains mature themes.

Enjoyable story

This was an enjoyable audiobook. I liked the characters, the story was pretty predictable though. The heroine is taken from her home by an alien whose gang was raiding her poor planet. He’s attracted to her and it’s mutual. He has to double cross the spoiled mean ship Captain to get her off the raiders ship. But he’s a kings guard and they aren’t allowed to take a mate. She’s almost sold into sex slavery, but he rescues her and then they have to face the king. Narration was good.

Enjoyed this book

I enjoyed this book more than book 1. The books get better as the series progresses. These aliens are really rough but when they find their mate, they fall hard. Looking forward to book 3. The narrators were very good.

great book!

great book! undercover spy risking his mission and the fate of his king and planet to save a feisty human female on a wasteland of a planet. she's determined to survive even with the odds against her, a fighter. he must be smart and cunning to save not only his bonded mate but crush the rebellion. the series needs to be read in order to get the full effect of the overarching plot line. a few parts tend to be repetitive, like the same explanation or scene gets repeated. the narration is decent it got better the more I got used to them.

Pretty good

The second installment was ok; again the Human female left a lot to be desired; however, in the circumstances in which she found herself, hard choices were made. Justine was good and Tristan was ok; it must be the character that was a bit off the chain. On to the last book!

Good story!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 💙💚❤️
Steam: 🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘
World building: 🌏🌍🌏🌎
Character development: ☹️☺️😒😍
Narration: 🎙🎙🎙🎙
Narration Type: Dual Narration

The heroine: Aren - when she was very young, Earth was invaded by the Craks, a scaly humanoid people who were cruel and impervious to most weapons. Much of the Earth was decimated, until the Zalaryns came and destroyed the invaders. They didn’t do this out of generosity, but because they wanted fertile virgin females that are compatible with their species which are mostly male. When Aren was twelve, she was tested and was marked by the Zalaryn as one of theirs. Her parents sold everything and moved the family to a small off-world settlement on what turned out to be a barren planet. Aren’s parents have since died, and she struggles to grow crops on the cold and desolate planet.

The Hero: Droka - he is the head of the Imperial guard and is on a mission from the Zalaryn high prince to find and execute the traitor to their world who is working with the Craks. He is undercover as a mercenary for the traitor Noxu. Though he got on the wrong ship and ended up with a Zalaryn admiral who has set up a raiding party for Noxu’s son to lead. It is not a real Zalaryn raiding party, it is a bunch of privileged kids raiding and killing on a small bleak planet of human settlers who have no means of defending themselves.

The Story: Aren is on her land when she sees a Zalaryn ship. She runs into her home and hides; she has a trap door in her closet which lets her hide under the house in a small hole that was made for that purpose. She has only a knife, which her parents had left for her to kill herself if she is found. However, when Droka enters her cabin and starts destroying things, she comes out and attacks him. He had wanted to try to save her by making her hide again, but another of the raiders enters the cabin and Droka is forced to claim Aren as his property.

The story on this one is better than the first book, though the first book did set the stage for Droka to be where he is, undercover and searching for the traitor who is planning to lead a rebellion against the high prince and the Zalaryn people. The world building was good, if a bit gross. For an advanced society, they are strange. They eat protein bricks made from the larva of a large crab-like creature. Yuk! Is all I can say. They only care that it fills their belly and provides energy for them. I suppose the bars are their version of our hot dogs… 😉

This audiobook was told in dual points of view via dual narration. It was narrated by Justine O’Keefe and Tristan James. Justine has a terrific voice, soft and feminine and she is pleasant to listen to. The same holds true for Tristan who is a fantastic narrator with a soft yet manly voice.

Not for me

This is one alien culture/future I would be very unhappy to wake up to. I like my heroines to be a bit more of the “take no prisoners” kind. None of thinking made much sense to me so I’m going to pass on this series.

Demeaning towards women

This book begins with torturing an old woman in a very sadistic way. Then a younger woman gets captured. I couldn’t find the mood to keep on reading this book. It’s too humiliating. It’s graphic in a sadistic way and too disturbing. I can’t get in the mood to wait for a romance to start. Too many disturbing lines at the beginning of the book and it killed the mood.
