About this listen

Nell, an out-of-work professional submissive, is desperate to find a job when she meets handsome film star Jeremy Gray at the restaurant where she works. He says he needs a personal assistant, but the work contract he shows her details not organizational duties, but sexual ones.

Jobless and homeless, Nell agrees to work for him anyway, on the promise that he will pay for her to finish her college degree when her stint as his "assistant" is complete. The start of their formal Dom/sub relationship is rocky, but they soon fall into a mutually satisfying, highly sexual routine. They play vanilla boyfriend and girlfriend in public, while Jeremy uses Nell as his kinky comfort object behind the scenes.

Then a stalker threatens their secret lifestyle, and their contract may not be strong enough to hold them together....

I wish the reviews I read told me about the voice

Icckkkkkk. The story was enjoyable but the voice of the female trying to sound manly was flat out awful and cringy to me and was the biggest turn off everrr. I was so disappointed. 😔

A favorite book. Great narration. Horrible audio quality.

This is a longtime fave that I’m grateful is finally available in audiobook format.

The narration is great. She’s quite capable and pleasant to listen to.

That said, it was recorded in a terrible environment. In some chapters the listener can hear what sounds like cicadas in the background. Did she narrate it in her patio?

The narrator also doesn’t edit out long pauses and unpleasant throat clearing and clicking, especially when changing between characters. It’s quite disgusting to have piped into your earbuds. The pauses slow down the scenes that are intended to be fast and breathless to something awkward. The writing deserves better.

"Submissive" does NOT equal "doormat"

Bloody annoying book - the "dom" was whiny, out right cruel and there was nothing in the book to indicate why anyone would fall for him (other than because he's a movie star, perhaps?) The "sub" was a doormat, pure and simple, and put up with being humiliated over and over - and NOT the erotic sort either.

Only reason I got the audiobook was because I remembered reading another book in the series - maybe the one about Mason? But suffice it to say that along with the frankly irritating storyline and the inability of the narrator to have distinct voices for each person, it also got monotonous.

A pity, because I have liked Annabel Joseph's books (at least I remember having liked them... *sigh*)
