About this listen

Ross Ward is bound by the chains of his past he never could seem to shake, leaving him living in darkness, detached from the world around him, and an obsessive workaholic with really only one rule: mind your own business.

Until one night, there was Adalind Hollis - scared, confused, in need of help. And for the first time, he couldn't convince himself to walk away, to mind his own business. Even after she was getting the care she needed, he couldn't seem to make himself stay away. But keeping her close meant he would eventually have to let her in, would have to offer over the horrors of his past, and hope she could accept it.

But even if she would embrace his past, could she accept his plan to exact brutal, bloody vengeance against the man who hurt her?

Contains mature themes.

Such a great story!

I am a long time JG reader and I really loved this story. JG has the ability to create this lovable characters with very different and well developed back stories. I enjoy how strong her female characters are. Her male characters are so loving and caring of their women, not perfect but they always have that "protect my woman" thing that I can't get enough of. Ward a man with a really difficult past and Adelind with her sweet amd trusting personality make such a great couple. I just love how she does a nice and long epilogue (something not many writers do. BTW THANK YOU JG). Both narrators did a great job.

Good read

Great narration both FMC and MMC. I would consider this a sweet with a bit of dark. If you like dark romance, this isn't for you. - it will fall flat. The conflict isn't prolonged or particularly unique but it's just enough to be entertaining. This is really a common tale of a man with a dark history finding a woman to be his light and future. I do like the multiple epilogues that let us see into the future. :)

Excellent!

I am a huge Jessica Gadziala fan. I have eye read most of her books and am very excited that we are now getting some audiobooks too. Below is my GR review. The audiobook was narrated very well and highly recommended.

As this was my first read by this author, I had no idea what to expect but saw the fighter on the cover and knew I would give it a go.
Ross Ward is definitely an anti-hero. He is very rough around the edges to put it mildly. When he finds a woman knocked unconscious behind the dumpster of his fight club, everything changes. Adalind is rather naive but certainly not weak. She just isn't too sure about getting involved with a criminal.
I really enjoyed this novel. The author has an easy flowing writing style, the characters are engaging, and the plot moved along at a good pace. There were several side characters mentioned making me want to read other books to learn more about them. This novel does stand alone, as I said it was my first read by this author and I wasn't lost at all.

Another beautiful story!

I love Jessica’s books (also just finally learned how to pronounce her last name haha). This love story tugged at my heartstrings. The mentions of my favorite Navesink banks character was also a nice addition.

Loved this book

I received a recommendation for this author on another authors fan page. Since then I have been binge reading all her books. This is currently her only audio book and I loved it.

This is the story of Ross Ward and Adalind. You are sucked into the story from the very beginning when Ross discovers her unconscious by the dumpster outside his fight club. The story progresses and every time I think I know what is going to happen I am surprised. The narration was great. This book is definitely worth a credit.

Great story!

I loved this book. At first, I had a little trouble accepting the goodness that seemed to exude from Addie, but she grew on me. I did not love the narration. The male narration was fine, but I felt the female had so many opportunities to make it more engaging...and each one passed by. I will admit to spacing out when she was reading; she was a bit dull. Other than that, I highly recommend, and haven't read a Jessica Gadziala book I haven't loved!

Ross Ward and Adalind Hollis

*****SPOILER ALERT*****

Dual POV. Both narrators read well. It's listed as a standalone but it seems like it's part of an unknown series. The story is good but I felt like I was missing a lot about the side characters. Content warnings: child neglect; H mom was a crack wh0re who died when he was 15; H doesn't know who his father is; human trafficking (forced underage fighting); a murder; h was punched/knocked out and left unconscious by a dumpster; illegal underground fight club.

Ross Ward owns a former school building, where he now runs an illegal underground fight club. His mom died when he was 15 years old and their apartment manager sold Ross to a man who owns teenage boys he forces to fight each other. Two years after being sold, Ross and Adler (one of the other boys) are called out by their evil owner. Fortunately Adler, the other boy, thought quickly and ended their captor's life, helped everyone escape, and then disappeared. Adalind Hollis is an only child, looking for new experiences, who has recently moved away from home. She works reception at a chiropractor's office. One the patients invites her to a location to watch perform. Adalind excitedly gets ready and goes, hopeful to start a relationship with the good looking guy. The night takes a drastic turn when he loses his fight and didn't appreciate her attempts at soothing him. Ross finds Adalind's unconscious body by his dumpster and takes her to the ER never thinking he'd see her again but bothered by the incident. The next day Adalind finds her car in the parking lot and Ross comes out to check on her.... The end of the epilogue finds them three years in the future, they are married with a son, three dogs, and Ross has just bought them a home. JP

Gripping story

Just like the Henchmen, this was a great story. Only negative is at times the female narrator sounded almost robotic. But other than that it was really good. Great character and story development at a fast pace.
