About this listen

Have you ever been betrayed by those you love? Violated in the worst kind of way? And no matter how hard you tried to fight your way out of a trick bag, no matter how tall you tried to walk, did the cold streets of life lead you right back to your grimy destiny?

The bestselling author of G-Spot and Candy Licker, Noire pens the intense tale of Eva Patterson, a tragic daughter of the ghetto who finds peril on the streets of New York. With an abusive mother and a heroin monkey on her back, Eva experiences a series of traumatizing events, forcing her to flee her Brooklyn tenement and seek refuge with her beloved cousin Fiyah in Harlem.

But fate is not done wreaking havoc in Eva's life yet. Poised on the brink of progress, Eva meets King Brody, a vicious Harlem drug lord who runs Bricks, the hottest rap club in town. Unbeknownst to Eva, her cousin's thirst for glory leads him to cut a killer deal with Brody. A trade-off is arranged: Fiyah gets a recording contract - and Brody gets Eva.

The problem is, Eva already has a man: Ice Mello Williams, a hot Harlem rapper who has a bitter feud going with Fiyah and is determined to seize his recording contract.

Torn between the man she loves and a violent kingpin, Eva becomes an unwilling pawn in a deadly game of cat and mouse. Can Fiyah and Mello help her elude the sadistic jaws of Brody, or will she end up losing her life in his brutal trap?

Noire is an author from the streets of New York, a #1 Essence bestselling author, and the editor-in-chief of NoireMagazine.com.

This book was really good. I was expecting something different than the ending told but it was still good.

This was a very interesting and intense tale of young black people fighting their way through the hard times and underground world of NYC of crime and music, I really enjoyed it.

I'm also from New York City so I can't help think about my own life experiences as a young person although most of young life was spent in The Bronx, and having never crossed over into those circles that the book illustrated. I appreciated the author and narrator. They both did a great job.

It also showed the impact of lack of family values and any positive parental influences or minimal community commitments on young people lives. To me, it was a testimony of how people are motivated by the street only to end up in prison life or death.

I had a hard time finding sympathy for most of the characters with the exception of Eva and Rosa. I think some of this book really did happen. This book also makes me glad that I left NYC before I became an adult.

The Bricks shows the real NYC

This was the first time I have ever read urban erotica and I love it. The steamy scenes are described with a passion and accuracy that you can't help but be turned on as you listen or read, The story truly grips you and takes you down the grimy road of dope boys and rikers island, unpaid debts, and fatal twist where anything is possible and not really always a good thing.

A true comeback story with a deadly twist!

This was the third audible I've listened to. Was doing it more for research because I'm an author and want to put my work in an audible. I'm a BIG fan of Noire. So I chose because her story lines are dope! She didn't let me down with hittin the bricks. I was in from the first word. Although as i I'm used to with her work, the tears were flowing. Noire you're awesome and you're my inspiration!

POWERFUL!

I've listened to several of noire's books and this is by far the most touching. Towards the end I felt all of Eva's pain and tears formed in my eyes. Fuego was such a sissy, he was truly a selfish man. Mello was my fav character, he was a ride or die! My type of man! I love listening to Nicole small! She does such a great job and has such a soothing voice.

Tear jerker

I was praying for the girl to make it, even though I knew it's work of fiction. somehow, I was wanting this little girl to make it through all the hell she went thru, which she did for a minute but it just wasn't long enough

what a tear jerker
