About this listen

All I've ever dreamed of is revenge. It’s how I survived the darkest parts of my childhood. The parts I’ve confessed to only one man. Then, I find out he’s the one who slayed my real-life bogeyman. Now all I dream of is him.

My best friend’s father. Forbidden. Nefarious.

A fact that fails to stifle my desire for him. But, when I attempt to breach his impenetrable heart, he unknowingly pushes me into the clutches of an evil I was unprepared for.---She’s untouchable, even for me. The girl has dealt with enough in her life without me adding to it. Once her demon-slayer, she’s now demanding more from me. As much as I ache to give in to her delicious touch, I can’t. No matter how loud the inferno inside me roars for her.

My daughter’s best friend. Illicit. Taboo.

It’s not enough to keep my needy stare from her body when she’s near. Then, I make the mistake of shutting her out. Now, I must help her claw her way out of the hell I threw her into.

Whoa. This audiobook has a complicated, heartbreaking, anxiety inducing storyline with characters that I immediately became invested in even though a huge age gap isn't a favorite trope of mine. This was difficult to listen to, with abuse throughout, and it had a bittersweet ending for me. I hope to see these characters in future books of this series.

The narrators were excellent! They were cast perfectly, bringing the characters to life. We get emotional performances that have the audiobook rolling like a movie in my head. Perfection.

This was difficult to listen to in a lot of ways. If you have experience with DV and SA in any and all their forms, please beware the trigger warnings. I don't have experience with those things, and this hit me pretty hard.

That said! The story was excellent. I think Murphy Wallace did a supreme job of lending authenticity to the experience of those who have been groomed and ended up in abusive relationships without realizing it until it was too late. She did a really good job of getting into Delilah's head as she navigated this amazing new relationship that slowly, covertly, turned into something incredibly toxic and dangerous. Because it was so focused on the FMC and what she was going through, and how her life was changing, we didn't get as much of Royce as I would have liked. However, we really couldn't have as much of him as we would have liked since this was about her journey more than anything else.

I think this was an important story to tell, and gives victims the opportunity to feel seen, if they can manage to get through it. And Royce was f***ing awesome. For real and for true, the end of this was so satisfying. Like, this guy that hurt her got what was coming to him! You know when Ramsey Bolton got his end in GoT? It had those vibes. It was all worth it just for that. We truly have a villain that you want to see burn in the deepest pits of hell. It was very well done.

Royce and Delilah do get their HEA, and I love that for them.

The narration was excellent. Props to MNJ for voicing such a sleazy slime ball and getting into that character's head, then switching to the wonderful person that is Royce. That had to be difficult to navigate. And also major kudos to Sarah Puckett for voicing a character that went through so much. Narrating that sort of trauma can get into your head, and I hope she was able to relax with a big glass of wine and feel good vibes when she was done. She was perfect in every respect. As always, duet narration is my very favoritest of favorites.

Overall, highly recommend IF you can handle the content. Always take care of you and your mental health first, but this is worth it if you can do it.

Heavy, but really good

Royce and Delilah

The narrators did a good job.

I can say this is not for everyone. This was on the heavy side as a majority of the story deals with different types of abuse and munipulation. This is mostly told from Delilah and everything she went through from the age of 7 to the present. It was a bit hard to listen to because I knew what was happening and she was not realizing right away and a lot of the things was a bit hard to listen to. Royce tried to do right by her but then that was how she ended up where she was. Thank god he didn't give up being protective. Justice was served and what happened to her father and Drew is what they deserved. I wonder and interested to find out if the rest of the series is as heavy as this one.

Judge me all you want, but this got off to an absolutely heartbreaking start, completely hooking me. Sadly, it was too relatable too, so of course it also took a satisfying turn.

This just got better and better as it went on—I felt so frustrated with the FMC, while also completely understanding her headspace. The author did an amazing job of depicting the cycle of abuse when a master manipulator is involved, and preying on their ‘ideal’ victim, one who grew up a certain way. Fortunately our girl has a supportive found family who are ‘in the know’ in such matters, so it’s not actually as dark as it may sound but … wow. This was masterfully executed. I will definitely have to explore more from this author.

Overall:
This was one of those reads that tackles serious, real-life, dark issues and ended up serving as a form of EMDR therapy for me, as it got me thinking and processing some of my own stuff. Amazing. While I did predict every single detail of every little thing that happened before it happened, that did not take away from my reading experience at all. And it ended up promoting healing—this right here, is why some of us read dark romance. Judge all you want but authors like this are doing the world a service. 4.5 stars.

🎧 Audio:
Excellent—Puckett is a fave narrator, even though she mispronounces many words, her acting is excellent. Overall flawless sound quality. Though I had trouble buying Johnson’s voice for Drew, as it sounded cartoonish, yet Drew is a savage master manipulator, I appreciated his acting, which was perfect throughout. 4.5 stars. 🦩

This is the first book in the RBMC: Gettysburg, PA series. Royce and Drew’s story is dark, steamy, and filled with twists. It’s an age-gap, forbidden romance between a woman and her best friend’s father, set against a gritty MC backdrop. The tension and chemistry between the characters are intense, and the plot keeps you hooked. Sarah Puckett and Michael Norman Johnson deliver strong performances that bring the story to life. A solid start to what promises to be a great MC romance series! #PFPAudio

This kept me intrigued from the beginning. Delilah has gone through so many things since a very young age that you can't help but feel sorry for her. This story has many things that could be difficult for some to read, so definitely check your TW before starting it.

I really enjoyed the way the narrators brought the characters to life.

Injustice and Absolution RBMC: Gettysburg, PA is an age gap, MC romance. This is a story with rough topics, so reader beware.

Royce was a tough character and tried to be the hero, while fighting his attraction. Delilah has been dealt a horrible hand in life, but showed resilience throughout the story. This book was an emotional read that drew me in from the beginning. So many ups and downs and I was pleased with the ending.

Michael Norman Johnson and Sarah Puckett did a great job narrating this book and bringing these characters to life.
