About this listen

Detective Gabriel Ashby has never looked twice at another man, yet the criminal across from him, the man he's interrogating, isn't like any other. Gabe can't deal with the sudden, intense need he has for one of NYPD's Most Wanted. Everyone close to Angelo Pagan ends up dead, with the smug gang leader standing amid the rubble. Gabe would love nothing more than to bust Angelo's ass and lock him up. So why is he seeing the bastard in his dreams at night? Angelo Pagan knows attraction to Gabe is suicide. He's resolute to ignore the chemistry…until a police raid goes wrong. He critically injures Gabe, changing the trajectory of both their lives. Now the two can't get close enough. They settle into a forbidden affair threatened by lies and betrayal, living on different sides of the law with no way of breaching the gap between them. With the authorities looking to make an example of Angelo, Gabe has to decide if it's really worth it to hate the sin but love the sinner.

Interesting premise that failed a bit in execution

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

There was too much sex and not enough character or relationship building so I'd have to say no...

What could Avril Ashton have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Make the men less emotional. Decrease the frequency of sex scenes. Actually show why these men are in love with each other beyond lust at first sight...

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

Somewhat. Some of the narrative was brought down by overacting on the narrator's part.

Could you see Love the Sinner being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

Well if they cn find an actor who looks and sounds like a younger Andy Garcia or a taller version of Antonio Banderas, then that guy can play Angelo. Gabe... I don't know.

Any additional comments?

I found out about Ellora's Cave not paying their authors the royalty they're due. If I'd known about that beforehand I wouldn't have purchased this title. I know there are 3 other books in this series and that they're much better than this book but I'm going to hold off on purchasing them until Ellora's Cave can sort themselves out.

I really liked this, although I shouldn't

Honestly, I really shouldn’t love this book as much as I do. Objectively, this really is not a very good book. It is an overly sappy, unrealistic alpha male, instalove read, which would make more sense in a shifter book, but whatever. That said, for some reason I loved it. I love Angelo and Gabe’s relationship. They are just too cute!! Big tough men exposing their feelings to each other in a very sappy way. It will definitely not appeal to everyone. This is NOT Ty and Zane in Brooklyn. This couple has a very different dynamic. The narrator does a really good job bringing diversity and emotion to the characters, and there is a lot of emotion in this story. Not Cardeno C levels, but a good amount. I think it is worth a credit. On to Book 2.

Cop and gang leader

I loved it! Gabe is a cop, Angelo a gang leader. Typically the two don’t mesh but in this story, they absolutely do. There was high heat, action and intrigue, mystery. There is violence too. This had everything I wanted from this kind of book. Angelo and Gabe had an instant connection that became a sexual relationship that was off the charts hot. Their chemistry was palpable. There were so many unexpected twists and turns. I listened to the audio book and man, do I recommend that! It was amazing. It was well written and well performed.

Gabe and Angel

What made the experience of listening to Love the Sinner the most enjoyable?

The narrator, but for whatever reason, I did not like the voice of Gabe, It did not match what he was doing in the story, or maybe I just did not like Gabe, don't know..

If you’ve listened to books by Avril Ashton before, how does this one compare?

This is the first I have seen of audio for her books

Have you listened to any of Renard Pasquale’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

no, first but definitely not the last.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Neither, this was good for the kick off of the series, and a necessity to read or listen to to get to the next books, but 2 and 3 are my favorites.

Cop and Crime Lord were the perfect pair

I love what the narrator did here. Loved it. I felt this one and he brought great emotion to the characters.

Detective Gabriel "Gabe" Ashby was interrogating one of the most notorious Gang leaders in NY, Angelo Pagan, when he found himself getting distracted by Angelo's lips. Angelo was the leader of Los Pescadores, was brought in for questioning due to Angelo's sister's disappearance. But this was some kind of fluke because Gabe is straight.

Weeks later, while Gabe is recuperating from getting shot by Angelo, they meet up again and Gabe begins to see there is more to Angelo than the street thug person. They soon give into lust and embark on a secret affair that they both know cannot last. After all, Gabe is a cop and Angelo is criminal. Soon their outside lives collide and they are forced to face music and make a difficult choices. But can they give up what they have found with each other?

Even though I suspected this would have an HEA, I didn't know how the author would pull it off, I mean, this is a classic case of Conflicting Interests. It's not a good look for a criminal to hang out with a cop, and vice versa. They both risked a lot sneaking around. But I love the person they were with each other. I love the narration and I loved the angst factor. I am glad I finally gave this book a chance and I can't wait to read book 2.

All Time Favorite!

This is my first M/M audio book, I read the book prior to diving into the audio version. It's wonderful!!!!
I love the narrator and how the brought the characters justice with his voice.

If you really think hard about the premise of the book, the story, it seemed over the top, even close to saying it's impossible. However, for some awesome reason, Avril made it so that it didn't came out as a bunch of BS. The story seemed more interesting, you can't help but root for the MCs.

It's an against-all-odds kind of love story. It's also a love-conquers-all love story. It's my favorite from the series. 5 stars all the way!

Good Story - Excellent Narrator

Very good. I enjoyed it, even though it was a little silly sometimes how unrealistic it all was.

The sex is hella dirty and the narrator, Renard Pasquale, did a great job with it. In fact I'd give him 5 stars for his excellent performance.

I'm on the fence if I'll do the next in the series though. Maybe sometime down the road when I'm in the mood for a story like this one - I know people love it.
