About this listen

Devlin

Sex comes with a price tag.

One I’m quite willing to pay.

In fact, I prefer it.

It’s easier that way, and in my life, I prefer ease. Prefer for most things to be transactional.

So when the intern disrupts my day, I’m not happy about it. I have a dark and dirty little secret he knows about. One that could destroy my reputation in a world where reputation is everything.

That makes him dangerous.

He could ruin me professionally, wreck my life, but the touch of his mouth to mine, the feel of him in my arms—they’re all I can think about.

I’m intoxicated.

Drunk on him, when I’ve always been sober.

Micah

I’m gay.

The freedom in admitting that is intoxicating. Enough to make me feel drunk with the relief of finally being myself.

But what feels better?

Devlin.

He’s my boss. He holds my future in his hands in more ways than he knows, but he isn’t as free as I am. Doesn’t have the same freedom I do to own up to what he is.

Because of that, I know I’m losing him.

I can feel us becoming DOA.

But is he worth fighting for when he won’t admit what I am to him? What we mean to one another?

I guess you’ll have to find out....

The Intern is a stand-alone contemporary MM romance, with an Easter egg for fans of Serena Akeroyd’s novels.

Sensitive listeners please note, this book includes a graphic rape scene.

Had me melting!

All it was supposed to be was an anonymous night. That is it. But fate had other things in mind. So when Devlin, British Viscount, CEO of Astley Publishing, and notable womanizer, and Micah, an intern at Astley Publishing, run into each other the next day they need to figure some things out. Devlin has been covering that portion of his life for years and thinks that he cannot have that side of himself out to the public. But Micah is more limited to his experience but is very comfortable with all aspects of himself. So, how will the two move forward from there? And how will fate intervene?

🎧Audio Review 🎧

Seriously…can Serena Akeroyd’s books get any better?! The answer is yes, but only if you add in the audio with both Joe Arden and Jacob Morgan. Both narrators did an amazing job bringing both the heat and the vulnerability, two areas that are difficult to pull together with such cohesiveness.

Real Characters/Real Issues

Serena Akeroyd never disappoints with real characters with real issues! Narrators Jacob Morgan and Joe Arden bring the characters to life, and with a British accent!

Amazing!

This author just gained an avid fan! The story is heartfelt, real and so well developed. Jacob & Joe bring the MC's to life. To be honest, it was difficult to hear Micha's journey, but I appreciated how the author tackled this storyline. I just finished and I will be re-listening right away. One of my fav M/M romance. Also, can we agree that Devlin's parents steal the show. This story made me swoon, tear up and laugh. You won't be disappointed.

Loved Micah & Devlin!!!

Serena Akeroyd’s The Intern is steamy, enthralling, gut-wrenchingly real and phenomenal. An anonymous hookup in a dark room sparks a passionate connection when the two lovers cross paths in the light of day. Despite a 16 year age gap, Micah and Devlin are both endearingly innocent in their own ways. I loved the way Devlin, powerful billionaire CEO and future Duke, gets tongue-tied around Micah. At nearly forty years old, Devlin still lives a split life; he presents the ladies’ man facade for the public and enjoys dark room encounters that feed his deepest desires. That is until one encounter stirred his soul and inspired him to embrace his true self. Serena Akeroyd’s storytelling is lovely and wholly engaging; her vivid imagery draws readers into the story. Micah and Devlin were so charismatic and relatable, that my heart ached with every hardship and soared with each heartwarming moment.

Joe Arden and Jacob Morgan were exceptional in The Intern. They are the new, sensational narration duo audiobook listeners have been waiting for. Jacob’s ability to be genuinely reverent and snarky at the same time was perfect! Joe’s portrayal of Micah was captivating in his most emotional and heart-wrenching performance yet. Jacob’s narration of Devlin was his most touching, charismatic, raw performance I’ve listened to. These two top-shelf actors brought Serena’s characters to life flawlessly in this emotionally charged, infuriating, life-affirming love story. Joe and Jacob matched each other's tone and cadence beautifully; this audiobook flows from start to finish.

Emotional & Powerful

This is my first book of Serena Akeroyd. What a first book. I love the rawness and realness of Devlin & Micah. Serena did a beautiful job in her writing. There were parts that were unfair but unfortunately life is unfair and it sucks. This was a beautiful love story and Serena narrating the beginning and the afterword was perfect. And how can we not forget Jacob Morgan & Joe Arden. They were perfect for Devlin & Micah. It’s cliche but the really did bring those two characters to life. The emotions they brought out for Devlin & Micah were amazing. This book is on the top of my MM books.

Gutted

Excellent listen, albeit a difficult subject matter. Narration was unparalleled and gave the story another level of excellence.

Masterpiece!!

I’m kinda new to all of Serena’s books so I didn’t know she wrote this until I heard it was coming in audiobook. (Sorry Serena!!)

And when I knew Joe Arden and Jacob Morgan were doing the narrating, I KNEW it was going to be phenomenal and it WAS!!! They were amazing as Micah and Devlin!

WOW

My first MM read and I am speechless! Joe and Jacob absolutely killed the narration and Serena’s beginning and ending notes just added such warmth to an already great story. Such depth and difficult topics to tackle and all was handled brilliantly. So good!

Incredible narration for this heartwarming story!

I’ve read this book in the past and absolutely loved it. I only started venturing into the world of MM romance earlier this year, and when the audiobook was announced, featuring the incomparable Joe Arden and Jacob Morgan, I dove right in. For me, audiobooks are like listening to a movie and this five-star narration made me fall in love with Devlin and Micah’s story all over again.

This book is for every reader who loves their spice extra spicy (from the very beginning!) and their characters full of so much depth and emotion, that they linger in your mind long after you finish reading or listening. This story made me laugh, swoon and tackled some difficult yet realistic moments, that touch the lives of so many in the LGBTQIA+ community. I praise Serena Akeroyd for spotlighting the endurance these men showed when it came to following their hearts.

The Intern is full of tender moments between two complicated and intriguing men, navigating through life and unexpectedly finding love where they least expect it. This book so beautifully written, as I find all Serena Akeroyd’s books to be, even in the most explicit scenes, leaving the reader feeling a wave of emotion and exhilaration.

Though I read this book before, listening to it gave me a unique experience. Hearing the accents and tones and emotions within the narrator’s performance, added this book to my “relisten!!” list and I cannot recommend it enough to anyone who is looking for a satisfying, provocative read. Five stars without a doubt!
