About this listen

"What it means, Em, is that you’re going to do what I want, whenever I want, or I’ll tell everyone your dirty little secret."

Art therapist Emrys Finnegan thought she'd left the fast-paced world of Public Relations behind when her old boss calls to offer her one last job. And it pays the kind of money that could change Emrys' life forever.

There's only one catch. She'd be working for disgraced major league baseball superstar Tanner Courtenay. And he’s a legendary PR nightmare, a violent and unstable athlete with a rap sheet a mile long.

Emrys has no choice but to grit her teeth and put up with Tanner's contemptuous treatment and malicious cruelty. But when one day he goes too far, everything changes. Suddenly, Tanner would do anything to get Emrys to stay with him. And with his wealth and ruthlessness, it's only a matter of time before he gets what he wants…

This is a fast-paced dark baseball romance with bullying, blackmail, obsession, breeding, groveling, and a HEA.

Unapologetic alphahole

A fun reread, happy to be able to listen while working out. Not a long story, the main character remains consistent in that he doesn’t change. Pushover fmc/bully mmc, fun trope

Kate Raven is a literary genius. I have listened to this audiobook like 70 times. I hope she makes a million more.

Bullying=non consent intercourse.

Did not enjoy. I love all the wild kinks and genres of romance but I would not call this a romance book. MMC aggressively bullys and degrades her. Grapes her the whole book. Only at the end does he care about her experience. He destroys her dream job because she left the state due to his threats to “give her” to her abusive ex for his own pleasure because she wouldn’t do what the MMC said. Then everything is ok because he says he loves her and forces her to get pregnant?!

Sucked

I like the tropes, but there were absolutely no redeeming qualities in either of the main characters. The female character is stupid. The male character is a spoiled toddler. He verbally and physically abuses the FMC..yet she never reports it to anyone. The other ball players didn’t report it either. She could have had the guy arrested and sued the team. But nope, just a spineless moron. Poorly written and it sounded like the narrator is a robot reading an instruction manual half the time, screeching the other half. Overall just awful.
