About this listen

Given to an alien brute. Forced to become his bride...

The rundown human worldship is a bleak place, but it's my home, and it's where all the people I care about live. My mother, my sister, my students, and my sweet fiancé, Nathan. I never imagined I'd be forced to leave...forced to become the mate of a barbaric Darrvason admiral.

The survival of humankind hangs in the balance, and I'm not the only woman whose life has been upended. Over two thousand young women are set to be handed over to the powerful aliens in exchange for fuel, repairs, and assistance in reaching a habitable planet. Payment. That's what we are, and we have no choice.

My new husband, Admiral Tornn, is a huge, musclebound beast who expects my absolute obedience. In his culture, I'm little more than his property. But to my shock, he awakens a yearning within me unlike anything I've ever known, and his firm punishments and savage lovemaking are causing me to question everything I've been taught.

Tornn's Mate is a dark romance intended for mature listeners.

Tornn and Ellie

This book is the first in a series and tells us the story of Ellie one of the 30 human women granted to the Darrvason race in exchange for help with the dying Worldship. The Worldship contains all that is left of the human race. It has been travelling in space for years in search of a planet on which to make a new home but now the ship is dying and without the treaty formed with the Darrvasons would soon be unable to sustain life.

The male who chooses her is Admiral Tornn, at first Ellie is terrified but will comply with whatever he demands as the lives of her sister and mother have been threatened by the commander of the Worldship who is also Ellie's uncle and there is no love lost there.

Over time a closeness and bond forms between this unlikely pairing, which ultimately leads to love but the journey is not Smooth, to tell you more would spoil what I found to be an enjoyable and different sci-fi romance, it's a somewhat sensual dark love story but it is a love story and one that I enjoyed very much.

The wonderfully performed narration is by Heather Firth and Tor Thorn who both do an incredible job bringing the tensions and emotions of the characters to life.

I look forward to listening to the next book in the Worldship Brides series

Stockholm

“Villainized” the fiancé at the end to make the plot easier to swallow. The “saviors” had every right to rebel. With their women taken in exchange for help, the guys weren’t even given “the butt plugs” in compensation.
…And what is it with whipping with straps?
Oh yeah, abuse, demean, toss out lame approval - spirit broken. Stockholm
Biological responses are automatic. Don’t fool yourself that it says anything beyond simple physiology. Women can’t even get a break in space.

Good listen

More of a BDSM romance with excellent aftercare it’s not just pain for pains sake like some of the audiobooks I have listened to. There is a good story line and a HEA, which I like. The story leads into another book in the series but you can listen to this one on its own. I really enjoy that in a book. The male voice is a little stand offish but I think that is mainly the characters personality I will have to listen to more of his work to get a good reference of his reading style. There are a few choice of wording that are a little repetitive and some are a little out there but that is expected. Overall a good listen.

Two thumbs way down!

Nothing but domination sex. Some shadow of an actual story would really help move it along.
