About this listen

When I wake up in a dark, unfamiliar room, I have no idea what's waiting for me in the shadows. My imagination conjures up demons of the worst kind.

Reality is much worse:

A collar with no leash. A prison with no walls. And a life stripped of meaning.

I am presented with a vile contract and asked to sign. It outlines the terms of my servitude. The only information I have about my captor are the two small letters inked at the bottom:

J.S.

Armed with only my memories, I must do everything I can to avoid becoming ensnared in his twisted mind games. But in the end, it all comes down to one choice:

Resist and die.

Or submit, and sign my life away.

this book isn't bad but it's not great either. My need to know what happens next is why I kept going. The narrations is just ok

OMG! I need the rest of this series like yesterday! I have never rated a 5-star for part of a series...but Man this was awesome for the way the book started...

Very Very dark romance... just the way I like my darky romance... their seriously has to be some level of violence to be called dark... and boy this did not disappoint... I think...as the thick of the story hasn't even been told...but from how this book started and the main (H) character's personality.... so far.. You know he is one crazy so and so....!

I need more than 2hrs of this story.... Come on Audible... give me more!!!

Narration was great... and for 4 bucks.... why not save a credit...

WOW!

I guess I didn't realize this was a short novella. It has the potential to be good. Loved the end & I'm going to have to finish the series now but the middle parts were somewhat irritating. Moments of..."this is about to get good" but then it just kind of lagged a little. But like I said; I'm going to have to read the rest

wait; what!!???

For a short book i found that i had to purchase it based on review of someone i follow. I usually do not purchase books that are a short read but this one had me intrigued. Scarlett Edwards did a fantastic job and the narration was perfect. Def can't wait until the next book come out so that i can see what is going to happen to the "h".

Very Dark

Any additional comments?

I didn't find this book very good although it's only the start of the series, the future books are a lot better. This book you should read once to understand how the story began but it's not a re-read.

It was ok

What made the experience of listening to The Contract the most enjoyable?

I was absolutely glued to this book from the very beginning. The development of the characters and the depth of raw emotion made this a one sitting listen.

What other book might you compare The Contract to and why?

I guess the only book I have read that would compare to this was Comfort Food.

What about Amy Johnson’s performance did you like?

Amy Johnson's performance was amazing. Her narration was full of emotion - making me feel like I was also living this nightmare.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

This is a series of books - too early to make tag line. But when I do it will be something that conveys the battle that is about to be waged.

Any additional comments?

This was only a short listen but it was well worth the effort. Hopefully all other books in this series will be available on Audible.

Amazing start to a new series!

4 two hour stories, I was hooked at #1. Similar to Consequences and interesting enough for me to continue. Narrator was ok, not the best.

Hookline #1!

I should know better than to start a series that is only 2 hours in length. Just when it is getting good you have “To Be Continued” stuck in your face. This book’s content is dark and suspenseful. You don’t know if you love it or hate it. In the end you love it but I wish there was more. J.S. is just a bit sick yet the author writes this story in a way that you cannot hate him. You are intrigues by him and why he kidnapped Lilly. She is just a confused victim in all of this and you think Stockholm syndrome. In the end this book keeps you wanting more. I don’t understand why authors write these little stories unless it is for a money grab. You end up paying more than usual for the entire story and this is why I don’t usually buy in. However, this one intrigued me enough to break my own advice. I am not disappointed. I am hooked and will need to continue on.

Love to Hate this Dark and Captivating Book

What would have made The Contract better?

This is the first time I have written a review, the is the worst book. There is no BDSM, waste of money.

Would you be willing to try another one of Amy Johnson’s performances?

No

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

None

Worst book ever

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

Audible has put the first book on sale for Audible listeners to rope you into liking the series which in reality is a few chapters sold as books. Right now there are 4 books available and you can choose to use a credit or pay $4+ for each additional book. I was taught that a book should have a beginning, middle and end well aparrently this is no longer true. Just when you get into the book it stops it just freakin ends. I know that I am being redundant but I really want to express how annoyed I am that I started listening to this "book" that just stops in the middle of the story development. I do not write reviews because I can hardly ever get my thought together enough in writing to express them but since I feel so strongly about not supporting this author I am doing my best to express my complete dislike this style of book writing. I am hoping to prevent anyone and everyone from making the same mistake that I have. It's just plain wrong and disappointing.

Would you recommend The Contract to your friends? Why or why not?

Not at all. If the series happens to be available for the price of one book yes the story seems like it could be good.

What about Amy Johnson’s performance did you like?

Easy listening. I listen too my books at work and I got drawn in to the story. I didn't end up tuning the story out while doing other task.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

Make it one or two listens. I don't mind paying to read a book I like. But, writing a couple of chapters and call it a book is insulting to your readers/listeners.

Any additional comments?

Completely bummed that I want to follow the story but feel that support a bad product will encourage this to be the norm.

Don't get sucked in if your Audible Listener.
