About this listen

New York Times best-selling author Beth Kery's blistering new novel of a man and a woman bound by the scandalous secrets of the past - and by the sexual hunger that still fuels their uncontrollable desires.…

Out-of-control party girl and wealthy socialite Elise Martin has come to Chicago to prove to herself and the rest of the world that her life is truly worthwhile. But she never dreamed she'd find herself at the erotic mercy of the dynamic and wealthy Lucien Lenault, her girlhood crush, an irresistible enigma who renders women powerless and vulnerable…not to mention wholly insatiable. But Elise isn't just any woman. She's used to playing with fire, and for her, discovering Lucien's secrets is all part of the game. What brought Lucien to Chicago with a new name and a new identity? Who is Ian Noble, the provocative new stranger in Lucien's shadow? And why has Lucien taken to following him in the night?

As the two of them get deeper into a dangerous sexual dance, Lucien can't help but wonder if the exquisite firestorm that Elise has ignited could not only expose his secrets, but draw him dangerously close to the edge and leave both their futures in ashes.

Hooked deeper

I thoroughly enjoyed everything about this second book...the characters gained more depth and their stories were well intertwined. It was a delicious read. Love, love, love everything about the narrator!

Amazing

I had listened to this book a long time back. Beth Kery had done an amazing job. Anne Delaroche was spot on with her narration.

Because the narration was so difficult...Oui Oui

Where to begin?

Elise is a former party girl who has been spoiled by her parents until they stop there financial support. Lucien is a former companion who feels that she would benefit from some discipline.

The discipline concept being very similar to 50 shades right down to the riding crop and of course we find out that Elise is actually a virgin. (Oh Lucien....How could you have been so mistaken)

It's not that the similarities are of overwhelming in plot but in style. Still worth a listen except for one thing ...narration. It really is that bad. I understand that the main characters are from France but the accent or affect or dialect is so overdone that you literally will miss words. It's more than merely off putting.

Good story but maybe a new narrator.

Elise Martin has come to Chicago from France to complete her culinary training by working under the chef at the restaurant Fusion. Elise is a well-known heiress in France and is known for her party girl ways, which are mostly false. She has been cut off from her family financially because she decides she does not want to marry the man her family has picked out for her. So she has trained to be a chef to put the party girl away and be taken seriously. Little does she know but the owner of Fusion is a man from her past that has had her heart from since she was a child, Lucien Lenault.

Lucien has run from his family shame from France to Chicago to make a new name for himself. He is trying to learn about his past and using a man by the name of Ian Noble to get the answers he is looking for. It has been a long process but Lucien feels like the timing is never right and goes about his business and his friendship with Ian until he can get what he is looking for. What he doesn't expect is for Elise to come crashing into his life and potentially spill the secrets of his past that he has been covering up. The way to keep her quiet is to keep a tight rein on her by having her in his bed and submitting to him completely.

I enjoyed this book but I think I might have enjoyed it a little more if I had read it instead of listened to it on audio book. The narrator was a French woman and it put off the whole story because it was hard to understand sometimes with the accent. It would have been better if the narrator was English and did French accents for when the characters spoke. I did like Lucien a lot and it seemed that he was definitely an alpha male. The only thing I didn't like was that when Elise pulled one of her party girl stunts or acted out he gave into her demands too easily. Elise bothered me because she was a spoiled rich girl who did outrageous stunts to get her way. Characters like that I don't care for and sometimes is hard for me to read. Also this story was erotica/BDSM but it was very soft BDSM and although I have read some very extreme BDSM this story seemed to miss the mark on that theme.

Overall I give it 3.5 stars.

Book 2 of Beth Kerry's series Because You Are Mine

Any additional comments?

I'm so glad there was a continuation to Because Your Are Mine. In When I'm With You we get the rest of Ian and Francesca's story along with a new story. There are some crazy twists in the story that keep you on the edge of your seat, panting for more. It looks like there will be another book continuing the story due to come out in November. I enjoyed the narrators accent and what it brought to the story but there were times that I couldn't understand what she was saying which doesn't make for a great audiobook narrator...I guess I'm on the fence with her. All in all this was a pretty good book offering some satisfying tidbits that help us better understand that which makes our alpha males tick. Definitely worth my credit and yours if you enjoyed Because You Are Mine.

I Tried

I tried real hard to make it through this book. Sadly it didn't happen. The summary of the book is misleading. I imagined the female lead of this story to be a much diffent type of woman and I expected the story to be way more exciting. It's way too boring for me to even tolerate listening to all of it.

Don't waste your credit.

Narrater is horrible!!!

Would you try another book from Beth Kery and/or Anne Delaroche?

I would from Beth but the narration by Anne is horrible. I can not get into the book due to the narration. She is dragging and she is too soft talking. Kinda mono toned. Lost interest in the book it will take me some time to get through this book. Wow!!!

What didn’t you like about Anne Delaroche’s performance?

Her voice isn't working. She has no enthusiasm in her voice and she is mono tone and she makes the characters seem all the same. Very little voice change. I would not recommend a book narrated by Anne

misophonia trigger

I'm not even 1 chapter into this book and I dont think I'm going to be able to make it. PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS HOLY, PENGUIN AUDIO, RE-RECORD THIS WITHOUT A WET-TALKER. The sound of her spit/wetness of her mouth is completely distracting and irritating. I cannot focus on the story because it sends the bad chills down my spine.

Unfortunate.
