Educated at the best medical school in the USA, namely Yale University, Dr Alan Hall has held many prestigious posts at a number of Ivy League Universities both in the UK and in the United States of America including, a Wellcome Trust Research Fellowship (Department of Medicine, Cambridge University Medical School), the University of California (Department of Biochemistry, University of California (Riverside)(Fulbright Research Fellowship) and the prestigious Roche Institute of Molecular Biology (Department of Neurosciences) in Nutley, New Jersey. Professor Hall's most recent academic appointment was as a Visiting (NIH-Funded) Professor at Cambridge University (England) where his research team studied apoptosis (programmed cell death) in cancer cells. Professor Hall has served on the editorial boards of a number of high profile science journals and has more than 150 academic publications and has written on a wide range of subjects and has many reviews and invited chapters published in books. More recently, Professor Hall has taken to being a writer of 'popular science' where he is able to translate complex concepts and topics into jargon-free language that people can understand-and hopefully enjoy. Professor Hall's books and essays are informative, entertaining and, for some, easy reads.
