Alanna Knight MBE was born on Tyneside of Scots-Irish parentage. Her first award-winning novel 'Legend of the Loch' was published in 1969 and she has written more than sixty novels (including sixteen in the acclaimed Inspector Faro series and seven featuring his daughter Rose McQuinn). In an impressive writing career spanning over forty years she began with historical novels and in 1988 launched into historical crime with Inspector Faro and his daughter Rose. All are available as e-books. She also wrote a series of books about Tam Eildor, a time-travelling detective, and Alanna was a life-long fan and an authority on Robert Louis Stevenson. In ‘A Violent Passion’ she wrote about his marriage to Fanny Osbourne. This is also available in e-books. Alanna lived in Edinburgh, beneath Arthur’s Seat, in the dramatic surroundings of Scottish history. A founding member and Honorary President of the Scottish Association of Writers and the Edinburgh Writers’ Club and member of Crime writers’ Association, she enjoyed researching her books, loved travelling, walking, painting and talking to readers in libraries. In 2014 she was awarded an MBE for services to literature. She died in December 2020 still writing in her 97th year, and her final novel, Murder at the World’s Edge, was published in 2021. Her books, also in large print and audio, are amongst the most borrowed. Praise from Ian Rankin: ‘Alanna Knight could hardly be better with a crime novelist's insight into motive and aftermath.’ For more information, photos, etc, see www.alannaknight.com
