Alex Lockwood is a writer, artist and activist living in the North of England. His debut novel The Chernobyl Privileges was published by Roundfire Books in March 2019. A finalist in the Impress Prize for New Writing, it has been called "a compelling, well-wrought and sharply intelligent book" (Nicholas Royle) that "brings together the personal and political, the spectre of Chernobyl and the continuing controversy of Britain’s nuclear deterrent" (Andrew Crumey). His non-fiction book The Pig In Thin Air was published by Lantern Books in 2016, an investigative memoir into the relationship between climate change, animals and the food we eat. His most recent commission was for http://shiftandsignal.space a series of podcast walks around Newcastle and Gateshead exploring local responses to climate change and environmental crisis. He has written for The Guardian, The Millions, Earthlines, and other titles, on the environment, climate change, and animals. His influences include David Mitchell, Ursula Le Guin, and Helen de Witt.
