Alma Zaragoza-Petty—the Doc ZP or Dr. ZP as she is known by her podcast listeners and students—is committed to fighting injustices and imagining life-affirming spaces in which we can all coexist. Both in the classroom and outside of it, she teaches about the roots of racism, colonization, and patriarchy and its effects on organizations and leadership. She is a daughter of immigrants, a first-generation high school and college graduate, earned a masters and doctorate, and has spent the last 20 years as a college advisor, professor, and researcher. Fueled by her tenacity and vision, she motivates others to be the change. Her book, Chingona: Owning Your Inner Badass for Healing and Justice, reflects on her story and invites readers to join the legacy of brave women who have used their healing to transform society. Never shying away from her complicated upbringing in Los Angeles and Acapulco, Mexico, she repurposes her pain and challenges all to imagine a better future.
