I always thought I’d write children’s books first, since I had some ideas about them, and they’d be short and sweet. Then came along this idea of compiling the stories that have come through the lovely Yoga Sanctuary over the years. Anyone that has come through the doors can feel the beautiful “Essence of Yoga Sanctuary.” There is practically no describing it, so how was I going to write about it?
The journey was started by asking people to send in testimonies of what Yoga Sanctuary meant to them. I diligently saved them in a folder on the computer FOR YEARS! I’m so much more about “doing” than talking about it or for sure writing about it! When the time is right, you move forward. I didn’t know where to begin, so guess what? Courses showed up on Facebook. I signed up and it gave me a guide to get going. Quite honestly, had I known just how challenging it would be I maybe wouldn’t have started down this road. I believe in the words spoken, “It is better to say you have written than to write.”
Words came to me “The quickest way to succeed is to start now and figure it out as you go. You cannot learn to drive in a parked car.” As you cannot write a book if you do not pick up the pen or type on your device. So here we are, book is published as this is being penned for the author’s page.
A couple of quick stories on how things magically and mysteriously came together for the book. I was visiting my neighbor, young lady friend, Hawley. She was showing me her artwork and knowing I’d been working on the content of the book; I snapped some photos of her work.
I saw a Salvador Dali painting that I thought would be perfect for the book cover. When visiting my artist spiritual daughter, Susie, for a weekend trip, I showed her the Dali painting. She said, “I could paint something similar for the cover that wouldn’t be Dali’s.” I flipped over to a photo of Hawley’s painting that had all the similar colors and effect. Susie nearly jumped out of her seat! She said, “That’s it!! AND you would be pouring into a child’s life!” Hawley was eleven when she painted it and twelve when it’s becoming live as a beautiful book cover of the most important book I could imagine putting together.
Now the story on the title. Leah, the editor, and I had agreed on probably God, Love & Yoga. Then in my book writing courses it was mentioned to throw out fifty potential titles and whittle them down. Leah and I met for a rare time to have lunch. Without premeditating the premise of the friendly lunch, we both took out file folders and within two minutes had unanimously decided God, Love & Yoga. Period! The good thing about all the potential titles is that there were some interesting names to title some of the chapters.
This book has been stretched, stroked, exfoliated, and birthed within this year of writing and many things were given up staying dedicated to the purpose. So many souls have been poured into this book and our souls woven into each other like a tapestry. Some people wrote testimonies from their heart and others that read their words will have light shed and compassion in their spirit. It’s been very healing for me to write and put feelings into words in the book writing process.
There have been major happening every time we turn the corner. It has already been mentioned that the works of Yoga Sanctuary are so very important that book number two must be next. So, look out! I’ve already learned so very much through this journey, I can’t wait for the next adventure! There are whispers in the air for a cookbook to be next. May we keep our eyes and hearts open. Shalom. Yoga Mama
