Anthony Bale is Professor of Medieval Studies, Birkbeck College, University of London. He has published widely on various medieval topics, including Christian-Jewish relations, the poetry of Chaucer and Lydgate, the cult of St Edmund of East Anglia, and fifteenth-century literature. He has published translations of Mandeville's 'Book of Marvels and Travels' and 'The Book of Margery Kempe'. He was awarded the Philip Leverhulme Prize and has held fellowships at Harvard, The Huntington Library, University of Melbourne, and elsewhere. He is currently working on pilgrimage and travel in the Middle Ages.
