I have always had a passion for writing, scribbling away endlessly during my teens and twenties, mostly on the subject of politics and law, never fiction. I put this on hold to pursue a legal career, which placed continual demands on an ability to communicate clearly and succinctly, though none of it publishable. When I retired in 2020, I picked up the proverbial pen again, replacing the typewriter with a keyboard, and immediately wrote and published two books about the work I did as a lawyer, which was greatly enabled by lock-down. I was halfway through writing a third book on the law of medical aesthetics, when a dream planted the seed for my first foray into fiction writing, a novella, The Box. I ran into the living room at four in the morning and scribbled it all down on a piece of paper, the characters, the plot and, most importantly, the feeling of the story. Thus, began my love for story telling. During 2023, I completed a semi-autobiographical novel under the tutelage of author Mike Nicol in Cape Town, which I am hoping to have published in the traditional way. I have had the manuscript professionally edited, and now need to rewrite it. My plan for 2025. My project for 2024 was writing and self-publishing on @amazon a collection of short stories, with a last page twist, under the name Twists and Turns: Tales to Test and Tease. The collection is now complete, and includes: The Pen, There But For the Grace of God, Missing, The Sins of Their Parents, Invisible, Trial and Error, Please Help Me! and The Voice of Reason. I am realising very quickly that there is a lot more to being an author than the writing, and so I am focusing a lot of my time on the publishing and marketing end of the process, and working on building a social media platform. I am in awe of the way Amazon handle publication and sales, with such quality and efficiency, and eternally grateful to them for providing the platform for me to make these books so broadly available.
