Dr. Aram Sinnreich is a Professor at American University’s School of Communication, and chair of the Communication Studies division. His work focuses on the intersection of culture, law and technology, with an emphasis on subjects such as emerging media and music. He has published three books, "Mashed Up" (2010), "The Piracy Crusade" (2013), and "The Essential Guide to Intellectual Property" (2019), and has written for publications including the New York Times, Billboard, The Daily Beast, and Wired. His forthcoming book, "The Secret Life of Data," coauthored with Jesse Gilbert, will be released by MIT Press in 2024. Sinnreich also writes fiction, collaborating with Rachel Hope Cleves under the pen name R.A. Sinn. Their first book, a science fiction novel called "A Second Chance for Yesterday," will be released by Solaris in 2023. Sinnreich is also a bassist and composer, and has played with groups and artists including neo-soul innovators Brave New Girl, reggae soul band Dubistry, world music collective Tributary Project, hard bop group The Rooftoppers, international ska supergroup Specialized Allstars, punk chanteuse Vivien Goldman, and Ari-Up, lead singer of the Slits. Most recently, his group Dunia & Aram released their debut album "Bedfellows" with GMO Records in Cologne, Germany. Sinnreich was a finalist in the 2014 John Lennon Songwriting Contest, and a semifinalist in the 2020 Bernard/Ebb songwriting competition.
