Austin Gunderson is a professional film editor, an epic fantasy novelist, and a semifinalist in the prestigious Writers of the Future contest. He’s loved telling stories since fourth grade, when he delved into the history of the gnomes from his math textbook whose procurement and distribution of jewels was supposed to be illustrating long division. He and his wife raise chickens, sheep, and three children in the shadow of North America’s steepest mountain range. Inspired by the likes of J.R.R. Tolkien, Brandon Sanderson, and Patrick Rothfuss, Austin began crafting the gorgeous and terrifying world of Arlam in 2007. Writing obsessively on nights and weekends—and garnering recognition from Writers of the Future on three separate occasions—he completed the first three novels of “The Heir and the Herald,” an epic fantasy tetralogy, before finally getting published in 2023.
