Hello again . . . it's time for an update! It's been a while since I have updated you on what's happening with the book. So I guess it's about time! First, thank you for being a follower. Writers and readers need and appreciate each other. And I appreciate you. Thank you for being a reader of books . . . and you may be like me. but I generally prefer to hold the book in my hand. However, I do listen to audio books when I drive or when I take my daily walk. So many books . . . so little time. It's nice to have these choices. So, if you held my book in your hand, I might share with you that an artist friend of mine said, "I just love the feel of the cover!" Now, that was interesting because I had not paid any attention to the feel of the cover. You might go touch the cover . . . see what you think. If you are an audio listener, thanks for listening! It was an experience for me to record the story. My daughter said, "I want you to record the book because I want to always have your voice available." Now that's interesting as well. When my father passed away, I took the box in his garage and kept it for almost 20 years. . .it had his handwriting on it! Voices. Handwriting. How many ways are we that allow us to hold our loved ones close. I never thought about this but these are just more of the things that we can LEAVE BEHIND! I received an email the other day from the Library of Congress Center for the Book. Here's what it said . . "Congratulations! Your book What We Leave Behind has been chosen by the North Dakota Center for the Book to be included in the 'Great Reads from Great Places' list for the 2025 National Book Festival of the Library of Congress. . . Every year, each of the Affiliate Centers for the Book choses a book that in some way represents its state's or territory's literary heritage. Perhaps the author was born or lives there, the book is set in a particular state or territory, or there is some other connection." It went on to say that the National Book Festival in Washington, DC, on Saturday, Sept. 6, 2025, will showcase my book on the North Dakota table, will include it on this year's Great Reads list, and will sell it at the festival to be held at the Washington Convention Center. I'm honored and humbled. If you are in the DC area that day, please come to the book festival and stop at my table! Keep reading! Barb
