http://benwestwooduk.com Ben Westwood self-published his debut book 'Poems From a Runaway' in 2017 after deciding to share his story to the world of being a runaway living on the streets of London, as well as a foster child. Ben is originally from the West Midlands, UK, where his journey in Poems From a Runaway began whilst living with his family, as well as with foster carers and in children's homes. Ben then went on to read the book and share his story of being a child runaway to social workers, foster parents and missing children's charities. Some of the following events include: Conference on child runaways - European Parliament, Brussels - Alongside Missing Children Europe and the Children's Rights Intergroup. Book reading and Q&A for foster parents and social worker students - Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge - in collaboration with To The Moon and Back Fostering. Book reading - AILC annual safeguarding conference (2018) Book reading - British Association of Social Workers (BASW - Black Country) - Wolverhampton Book reading and Q&A to foster parents - in collaboration with Sunflower Fostering - Shropshire, UK Ben also wrote a short poem for author Jane Corry, in her Sunday Times Bestseller ' I Look Away' which can be found at the front of the book, as well as sharing his stories of being a child runaway with publications such as 'Become' charity which publishes a magazine for children in care as well as contributing to blogs for the charity Missing People. In 2019 he released two books. 'Welcome To Leatheton' is Ben's first ever work of poetry fiction as part of an upcoming series 'This Is Leatheton' and can be found on amazon. It is a raw, gritty, deep and meaningful poetry book based in the fictional English town of Leatheton and contains a wide variety of stories and characters. Some are reoccurring, such as Derry the dog and a young boy called Jack. In 2019 he also released a small short-story book called 'How Not To Fit Up a Squatter' which details how he was framed by police in London which he managed to prove, which subsequently led to the officers being charged for perverting the course of justice and going through a lengthy three years of trials at Southwark Crown Court. Ben is also a musician, campaigner, busker, blogger, and advocate for young people's rights with an interest in homelessness and children in care, among other things and can often be found on Twitter networking with care leavers, social workers, foster parents and supporters of his projects.
