Bo Lozoff (1947- ) is an American author, teacher, activist and singer/songwriter whose work has drawn fans as diverse as Mister Rogers, His Holiness the Dalai Lama, and Outlaw Biker Magazine. His first book, "We're All Doing Time" (1984), although originally intended for the prison population, has been hailed by Village Voice Magazine as "One of the ten books everyone in the world should read." In 1999, Lozoff was awarded an honorary doctorate in theology from Chicago Theological Seminary and the Temple Award for Creative Altruism for his groundbreaking "Prison-Ashram Project," a worldwide spiritual outreach administered by Human Kindness Foundation to distribute free copies of Lozoff's books, CDs, and DVDs to prisoners, their families, and prison staff in over sixty-one countries. Dr. Lozoff has personally visited and led workshops in approximately 1100 prisons around the world. His musical career has produced four critically-praised CDs, Stumbling Toward the Light (1986), Whatever It Takes (2004), Eyes So Soft (2006), and Bo Goes Country (2012). Lozoff has also authored two illustrated children's books, The Wonderful Life of a Fly Who Couldn't Fly (2002), and A Little Boy in the Land of Rhyme (2011). Semi-retired from writing and lecturing, Bo Lozoff now lives on the active lava field of Kilauea volcano, in Kalapana on the Big Island of Hawai'i. He supports himself by musical performances and by guiding hikers to see lava flowing up close. He is still songwriting and producing new musical albums.
