I feel like ‘Baruch’, the prophet Jeremiah’s scribe. How did I, as a former reporter and community newspaper editor, become an investigative author in a world where everyone has an opinion and theologians fiercely argue doctrines? It started in 1990. While running the Comrades ultra-marathon, I saw a small airplane dragging a message that read: ‘Come unto Me said Jesus’. But, being a 'regular Christian' in a Calvinist-Protestant culture, it took a missionary pastor-friend months to convince me just to bow the knee and in faith say the ‘prayer of salvation’ to begin the process. A calling to write and a quest for truth necessitated an intensive, Berean-like, daily study of Scriptures. I started the manuscript of what is now ‘Royal Israel the Gathering Series Books 1-5’ while in Korea for a year in early 2002, doing intensive research on Messianic prophecies, after wondering why preachers generally avoid Ezekiel 38-48. Next I wrote, also after many years of contemplation, a book that is now titled 'PARTISIE - the ZA rebirth' (prophetic fiction about the threatening genocide in South Africa). After attending a prayer meeting in about 2013, I got the distinct impression of the question: 'How then shall we pray?' What I thought would be a long letter to a pastor turned into what is now a series of five books. The original book took three years and much research to write. One night in around 2012 I had a dream about meeting a lady in Mumbai regarding a little book with a Messianic title and the figure of ten million. The next morning I saw a video of Ofra Haza singing 'Jerusalem of Gold' (back in 1998) and immediately had the inspiration to create what is now titled 'The Songbird-bride from Mumbai', a faith-based musical! I also wrote it as a screenplay and visited India in 2017. Then in April 2018, a week before the historic Korean Peace Summit, I had a distinct dream about the cover of the book 'Pyongyang Again Jerusalem of the East', but with our 2nd sons name as author. I told him about the dream and started writing; it inspired him and he has now published two books, converted one into an audio book and had the other translated into Spanish! Having been married since 1982, we have four sons. My maternal heritage traces back to the first free Dutch pioneers in South Africa in 1657 and on my father’s side to the famous Protestant John Bodley, with Jewish links through to 17th century Germany, from where my grandfather came. This probably explains a great, possibly genetic, love for Israel. Thus, should you ask: “Are you Evangelic or Messianic?” The answer is: “Neither, I’m both!” Caption: The author Eric and his wife, Petré, in front of the Presbyterian church in Masan, Korea where they served from end 2015 to end 2017 while teaching English at hagwons.
