Catherine Wigginton Greene is a writer, documentary filmmaker, and educator deeply committed to strengthening human connection and understanding through a variety of platforms, genres, and media. Most recently, she co-authored with Christine Platt the novel Rebecca, Not Becky (Amistad, Dec 5, 2023). Praised by Kirkus Reviews for “having savvy fun with stereotypes and the sub rosa operations of female social networks,” and Publisher’s Weekly as “social satire [that] smoothly evolves into a propulsive page-turner,” the novel explores race, friendship, and motherhood while taking a satirical look at performative allyship among wealthy suburbanites. In addition, Catherine wrote and produced the stage production, Let's Take This Offline – a live sketch-comedy show about the absurdity of modern digital communication – which premiered at Capital Fringe Theater Festival and was dubbed “howl-out-loud hilarious” by DC Theater Arts Magazine. She also directed the groundbreaking feature documentary I'm Not Racist…Am I? which follows a diverse group of teens and their families through a yearlong exploration of race and racism. She and her filmmaking partners have screened the film nationwide and used it as a tool to spark dialogue on race and racism for the past 10 years. In addition, she has developed educational videos, curricula, discussion guides, and a workshop series to accompany the film so that viewers can connect more deeply with its subject matter. Catherine's previous work includes writing, producing, and co-hosting the online video-based interactive program Look Deeper: Race; co-producing the documentary In 500 Words or Less, an examination of the fraught college application process through the eyes of four teens and their families; and writing and co-producing the Adopted: We Can Do Better video series which aims to shed light on the experiences of children of color raised by white parents. She has also written feature stories for numerous magazines and newspapers. Catherine grew up in Denver, Colorado; earned a BA in history and Spanish from Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and an MS in journalism from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism. She is currently pursuing her doctorate in curriculum and human development at George Washington University's Graduate School of Education where she researches emotion and difficult dialogue. She is in love with books, podcasts, and films, and will always want to know what you're reading, listening to, or watching. She lives in Washington, D.C., with her husband, their three daughters, and their puppy PJ.
