Cheryl started her fitness career in her hometown of Cincinnati, Ohio, where she lived the majority of her life. Her fitness journey started on stage, as a natural competitive bodybuilder, then transitioned into her working as a personal trainer. During a 2 year stay in Columbus, she started teaching bootcamp classes and fell in love with the group atmosphere. This led her to starting her business, Got2workout, in which she offered one on one, small group training and bootcamp classes. Cheryl’s journey later landed her in Port Huron, Michigan. Her passion to help others with their weight loss struggles lead her to becoming a Certified Health Coach, and soon after, a Certified Fitness and Nutrition Specialist. She started establishing herself there; personal training in local gyms, and teaching bootcamp classes through a recreation center. Then opportunity knocked, and Cheryl answered. She took a leap of faith and opened up her own women’s only fitness studio, “Buff Bodies Bootcamp.” Over the years, Cheryl took note of the many women she encountered, some as clients, and others she crossed paths with. She came to realize that a huge percentage of the women she encountered feared working out at a gym, and were quite intimidated of the thought of going to a gym. This inspired Cheryl to have a women’s only studio - to create a welcoming, non-intimidating and supportive environment for women. BUT she also wanted to make it fun; for she believed, if you have fun doing it, you’ll look forward to it and keep coming back. Not wanting to leave the guys out, she eventually offered some co-ed classes and even worked with a local boy’s hockey team. Her “Have Fun Getting Fit” motto helped inspired and empower women of all ages to achieve their health and fitness goals. She taught there for 8 years, during which she started writing for the local paper, the “Times Herald.” Cheryl’s “Matter of Fat” column featured articles on health, nutrition, exercise, self-help and motivation. Cheryl provided information in a simple, informative and light hearted manner – inspiring and motivating people to take action for their health. Currently, Cheryl lives in Clinton Township, Michigan, and works full time for a public mental health agency as a Health Mentor. She works with people using a recovery focused philosophy, to help teach and empower them to become healthier in body and mind, by incorporating a healthy lifestyle.
