Family scandals make the best stories! Writing and reading mysteries and historical novels: time travel at its best, in the comfort of our own favorite chair. How else can we visit the far away lands of Mexico, or my current home city in the Napa Valley, north of San Francisco, or peek into life in 1690? or 1920? How about traveling to New York City? Thanks for joining me on our journey together! Writing fiction is like writing legal briefs, only for a willing audience: some facts, some twists, some invention. I spend my non-legal fiction-writing time doing deep historical research, mining family histories, drinking coffee, and embroidering truth with meaning. My writing spans eras and worlds, from 1690 Colonial Mexico, to Roaring 20s San Francisco, to modern-day Napa, New York City, World War 2 Germany and beyond. I'm a lawyer, a mother, a grandmother, a weaver and a cook. I definitely have far too much energy. One of my recent books, Nine Tenths of the Law has been optioned for a full-length feature film, and the book’s sequel, Our Lying Kin, came out in 2023 from Kasva Press. The third Zara and Lilly novel, Sisters at an Exhibition, is expected in 2025. My newest venture is the Simpato Mystery Series, and Murder without a Duck just launched! An edge-of-cozy, funny, small town mystery, this one hits all the notes! And plenty of awful duck puns, too! _______ Claudia Hagadus Long is the author of seven novels, including the new Simpato mystery series, launching with Murder without a Duck! She also writes the Zara and Lilly series, which begins with Nine Tenths of the Law (Kasva Press 2020) followed by Our Lying Kin (Kasva Press 2023), and coming in the Fall of 2025, Sisters at an Exhibition. Her books span centuries and topics, but all are twisty psychological novels fueled by family secrets and hidden scandals. They are also funny. Claudia is a lawyer by profession, a dedicated weaver and a passionate cook.
