Cynthia J Hurn, freelance writer and co-author of several award-winning, non-fiction books has been fascinated by telling stories since early childhood. As she grew up, she discovered its potential for bringing about healing, growth and understanding. In her mid-fifties, she began writing professionally, helping people publish their inspirational memoir or non-fiction title. Her favorite books to write are about people (and animals) whose traumatic experiences or life challenges sparked their transformation and created blueprints for living inspirational lives. Cynthia has collaborated on several books with world renown Dr. Bernie Siegel, a retired surgeon and spiritual teacher who helped to change the approach of modern medicine to one that comes from the heart and helps people to realize their own self-healing. Now Cynthia is excited to announce the release of her first fiction, a heart-warming historical adventure that appeals to readers from age 9 to 99. "The Shimmering" is available in paperback and e-book, and is classed under Children's 19th century Historical Fiction. Her story takes place on the Oregon trail in the mid 1800s and in England in the 21st century. Crossing into the mystery of then and now, this tall tale is based on real events from diaries and other archives. Not only is "The Shimmering" a ripping good yarn, it educates and entertains while it broadens readers' appreciation for the ancestors who framed one part of today's world. One of Cynthia's mainstays for living a healthy, meaningful life is caring for her golden retriever dogs. Each one was adopted offically as her canine writer-buddy, but in reality they are her constant companions, exercise coaches, wisdom teachers and clowns. Readers will find that at least one of her dogs makes an appearance in all but one of her books. Cynthia calls two places Home, as reflected in her novel, "The Shimmering." Sometimes she's living in Southwest England where she walks the moors and tells tall tales to her four grandchildren, and other times she's in the Pacific Northwest with her partner, their five dogs, two horses and four cats. Since the beginning of the covid pandemic, Cynthia has maintained a huge vegetable garden, where she finds exercise and food for her soul, and provides fresh organic vegetables for the local foodbank. The following is a list of her non-fiction books with the collaborating authors: "No Endings, Only Beginnings" by Dr. Bernie Siegel with Cynthia J Hurn (Hay House Publisher 2020) "Love, Animals & Miracles: Inspiring True Stories Celebrating the Healing Bond" by Dr. Bernie Siegel with Cynthia J Hurn (New World Library, 2015) Winner of the 2015 Silver Nautilus Book Awards.
