David Mountjoy was born near Worcester, in the English Midlands in 1972. He grew up in the countryside, either at his family home or on his mother's family farm. After graduating from university, he became a primary school teacher, working in several schools across the south-west of England. Having always enjoyed writing, especially creative stories and poetry, he drew great inspiration from many of the children he worked with - their love of rhyme and rhythm in words and appetite for spontaneity. He now lives in south west France, near the Pyrenees mountains, where he farms rare-breed cattle on 100 acres of organic meadow and woodland.
