I was born in a poor rural area, of east central Alabama. My loving father was a textile worker, who had many side businesses to make ends meet. My wonderful mother was a housewife, in every sense of the word. Although considered poor, the treasures of childhood brought many adventures, few will experience. We moved often, as my father's work required. I attended ten different schools before graduating in 1972, from Coosa County High, in Rockford. Growing up during historic events, such as the Civil Rights movement, and the Vietnam War, broadened my horizons, even more. I have worked in the textile industry, automotive industry, and over thirty-one years in the trucking industry. People have always fascinated me, no two are alike. With few exceptions, I feel there are no bad people, only the misunderstood, or neglected. This is often from childhood experiences. If one will look close enough, there is good in even the worst of circumstances. Often I am asked, "How can you write about different people and not get them confused?" I will answer, "I don't know, but I do." The truth is to understand every aspect of a character. No two are alike. Place yourself in their mind and body. Then, conduct yourself as they would. I never have considered myself a writer. However, what I am, is a story-teller, seeking to broaden the world of the reader. I suppose we all like to fantasize a world, where people, and events, coexist well together, not the real world that we have inherited. That makes a good read, one that removes you from your current life, into another. This is my wish, this is my goal. It's with great sadness that I inform you the love of my life, since high school, for forty-seven years, went home to Heaven on November 17, 2019, after a multiyear battle with illnesses. I had to place work on new writings aside for an extended period. While the pain is great at this time, I look forward to continuing a new work soon. Thank you for your understanding in advance, David B. Hurt.
