David B. Yaden, PhD, completed his doctorate at the University of Pennsylvania and is now an Assistant Professor at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. His research focus is on the psychology, neuroscience, and psychopharmacology of spiritual, self-transcendent, and other positively transformative experiences. Specifically, David is interested in understanding: how do brief experiences result in long-term changes to well-being? He is currently conducting studies to determine whether and how psychedelics increase well-being and treat mental disorders. He has authored over 60 peer-reviewed academic articles and 14 academic book chapters. He is the editor of two books: Rituals and Practices in World Religions and Being Called. His first authored book was published in September, 2022––The Varieties of Spiritual Experiences: 21st Century Research and Perspectives––with Oxford University Press. His scientific and scholarly work has been covered by The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, New York Magazine, NPR, CNN, and BBC.
