David Tromblay served in both the United States Army and Navy before he earned an MFA in Creative Writing from the Institute of American Indian Art in Santa Fe, New Mexico. His memoir “As You Were” (Dzanc Books, 2021) was named one of the best Nonfiction books of 2021 by Kirkus Reviews. After retiring from the military he worked as a medical courier, which inspired the novel “The Essentials” (Whisk(e)y Tit Books, 2021) but working as a substitute teacher during the pandemic caused him to divorce the idea of becoming an educator. He now lives in rural eastern Oklahoma with giant dogs and tiny goats in the midst of his ever-growing gardens and permaculture food forest.
