Let's just start differently. From the back to the front. And see how that works. In March 2025, "Die Kurve" will be published by Suhrkamp. Why? Because the radio plays about the "Task Force Hamm" took many people on a journey through the provincial side of the Ruhr area. And because it was time for something new, different and unexpected. The team around gambler Scholz, alcoholic Lenz, Ditters and the lovably limited Latotzke have now exceeded 20 episodes and the accompanying novel is still one of my favorites. Together with my debut (nobody forgets their first time) "Last Night in Queens", which was published by Rowohlt in 2003. "Queens" is set in the huge, hectic (and at the time a little dangerous) New York and is about big plans and big homesickness. And how do I get the curve to "Die Kurve"? It's simple - "Die Kurve" is set in many places: Naples, Monaco, Frankfurt, Cologne, Sylt and of course Berlin. But deep in the hearts of all the main characters is of course the Ruhr area. This time in the form of Herne. The days of the social project called "The Bend" enchanted by the spirit of optimism, are long gone. Today it is just the vanished home of a collection of lost souls like the highly gifted ex-junkie Ridley, the out-of-touch Betty in her late twenties and the ex-footballer Mali. Their boss and client is the former social worker Carl, who now runs a lucrative but highly risky general store for criminal services from exile in Monte Carlo. And what does all this have to do with me? Probably not much or everything. Because no matter where I am, no matter where the wind blows me, a piece of the "Ruhrgebiet" is always with me and doesn't go away. And - to be honest - there is not much more to know about me.
