Dr. Jan Pol is not your typical veterinarian. Born and raised in the Netherlands on his family’s dairy farm, he is the charismatic and world-renowned star of Nat Geo WILD’s #1 hit series, The Incredible Dr. Pol. He’s also the face of the Dr. Pol brand of products, launched in 2019 and spanning more than 10 categories including dog and cat food and treats, farm animal feeds, cat litter and animal bedding, first aid and wellness, grooming and pet accessories, Dr. Pol is proud to bring his 50+ years of veterinary experience and passion for helping animals to their humans. Helping animals and their humans is at the heart of Dr. Pol’s mission and has been his life’s work. As the youngest of six children, he grew up on his family’s dairy farm surrounded by cows, sheep, pigs, chickens, geese, turkeys, rabbits, dogs and Friesian horses. But it was at the age of 12 when he delivered a litter of piglets, Jan knew he wanted to become a veterinarian. An enthusiastic and naturally inclined scholar, he graduated from the prestigious Utrecht University Veterinary program in 1970. He immigrated to the US and began his veterinary career in Michigan with a local veterinarian. In 1981, Dr. Pol relocated and opened his own animal clinic, Pol Veterinary Services, in Weidman, Michigan. As Dr. Pol’s business grew, he and his team have treated tens of thousands of patients since opening their doors. In The Incredible Dr. Pol, viewers watch Dr. Pol as he travels across rural Michigan, caring tirelessly for every family pet and herd of livestock in need of his expertise and kindness. Unflappable and unstoppable, Dr. Pol routine puts in 14-hour days making farm calls and treating patients in his very busy clinic. With 24 seasons and more than 240 episodes available to stream on all major services, fans can binge for days! Dr. Pol’s book, “Never Turn Your Back on an Angus Cow: My Life as a Country Vet”, a New York Times best-seller, is a wonderful memoir sharing both his life experiences and compassion for animals and the humans who care for them. Dr. Pol continues to be active with his veterinary clinic and local philanthropic organizations 4-H and FFA (Future Farmers of America), non-profit charities that help teach young adults how to take proper care of animals. He believes that children who are taught to take care of animals at a young age make better adults.
